I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this subject? It is a topic that has picked up serious discussion due to the fact that there are OFFICIAL documents that have been declassified in the late 90's to support this notion of John F. Kennedy's final showdown against Cuba.

Here's some foreground:

After the Cuban Missile Crisis I'm aware most of you know of JFK's alleged secret deal with Khruschev to remove the missiles in a promise JFK will never invade the island. Well this deal would be effective pending only one circumstance: Castro was to allow UN inspectors into Cuba to make sure the USSR were removing the missiles. Castro refused. The deal was non-binding.

This is when John F. Kennedy "closed the book" on Cuba and began to draw up plans to deal with the Cuban problem once and for all.

C-Day was a plan that very few people in Washington knew about. When I mean few, I mean FEW. The Kennedy's did not want the CIA to take part of the coup for obvious reasons. JFK knew about it. RFK (who was GOD when it came to Cuba) knew about it. Defense Secretary McNamara knew about and so did Sect. of Army Cyrus Vance. Not even Sect. of State Rusk knew about it. He later said that he did not know about it until after JFK's assassination.

The plan was for Commander of the Armies in Cuba and third in power behind Fidel and Raul Castro, Commander Juan Almeida (still alive), to incite a coup in Cuba, remove Castro and set up a provisional government.

The United States g'vment would then step in and support Almeida with a full military invasion to last until free elections would take place.

Commander Almeida (Not a communist) had grown weary of Castro and his revolution. Some people today wonder whether Castro had a heads up on this coup because it was well documented that Che Guevara was put under house arrest during the selected date for the coup.

C-Day was set to take place on December 1st, 1963. A week earlier, JFK was dead.

ALL FOLLOWING MEMOS HAVE BEEN DECLASSIFIED AND ARE FROM THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES:

-A secret memo dated November 14th, 1963 clearly states a plot involving one "Juan Almeida."

-A secret memo dated February 20, 1961, two years before the fact, shows "Commander Juan Almeida, who is Chiefof Fidel's Army, actually is very much disgusted with the communistic situation in Cuba"

-A secret memo sent shortly after JFK's death reports a plan for "an internal uprising" involving "certain Cuban Military figures who are conspiring against Fidel Castro. Among the key figures in the plot are Juan Almeida."

- A top secret memo dated May 29, 1963. General Maxwell Taylor wrote regarding "an invasion of Cuba at a time controlled by the United States in order to overthrow Castro government"

All of this information has been dug up from actual declassified memos and information and is now in a book called: ULTIMATE SACRIFICE: JOHN AND ROBERT KENNEDY, THE PLAN FOR A COUP IN CUBA, AND JFK'S MURDER.

It's a really good book..

Any comments?

EDIT: Misspelled Sect. of State Rusk's name.

You've got it wrong, the authors do not name Almeida as the inside man. In fact they make it quite clear that they will not mention his identity as that will mean they contravene US security laws. They do however know his identity. The authors further wrote the book to illustrate how the best kept secret allowed the mafia to infiltrate and plot to kill JFK for they knew that for them to be unmasked as the plotters would mean commensurate unmasking of the CDay plan - a political embarrasment that RFK would not dare unleash on the Kennedy name.

Very interesting information, it is not at all surprising in the least, but puts the assassination in a new light. The timing of this coup attempt suggests to me not that Castro ordered Dallas, but that JFK was betrayed by one or more of those he entrusted with carrying it out, and that Dallas in November was chosen for this reason. It was likely the catalyst for the date, but not the prime motivating factor. Clearly the assassination was a coup d'etat and this just added fuel to the fire.

It's no surprise in this light that LBJ turns away from the Cuban question and heads hellbent into Vietnam. Cuba was a powderkeg and impossible to easily unravel, and Vietnam promised a big fat profitable war far from the Soviets strategic interests.
