I'm afraid of.. THE MICROWAVE!
To further explain, I'm not talking about the waves produced from inside the microwave. Rather, I am terrified of the actual object itself.
I have no problem using it for those TV dinner meals, and a plate or bowl of whatever is fine too. However, I have a mild panic attack each time I
place a mug inside (usually to heat up milk for cocoa, hehe).
Am I crazy? Discuss.

I got by the far worst(strangest) phobia, i am not going to say what it is.
You may think that yours is strange but mine is alot worse. Phobias are strange, but thats life.

Are you afraid of other electric appliances? It could be Electrophobia
But if you are only afraid of microwaves, I am sorry, I have no answer.
I looked through every phobia in the book, from fear of onions to the fear of the great mole rat, and there was nothing about microwaves. Maybe you
are the first?

Not to add to your fears but be careful when heating up liquids in a microwave.
At high enough temperatures and with the right conditions, water can actually explode in the microwave!

That certainly is an odd phobia. I myself, actually have a phobia of "pointy objects" for lack of better words, and sometimes if I have a little
episode it makes it extremely difficult to look at objects like: Pencils, pens, table corners, roadside markers (you know...those little green poles
with reflective white circles at the top) which can make driving very uncomfortable, needles, straws, etc. etc. I feel as though those objects are
somehow going to leap up from their position and stab me in my eye, and the fear makes me uncomfortable and jumpy. Irrational fears are part of the
human experience, and I have been able to control mine somewhat by focusing on something else.
Also, it's very revealing about humanity when they are told of my fear and immediately need to test it by pointing objects at my face...yeah, real
funny!

enjoies05, I am not afraid of any other electrical appliance (that I am aware of). I wasn't able to find anything about "microwave fear"
either. How frustrating! If I'm the first, I don't want to be taken away for testing!
not_fazed, you are evil! Thank goodness I only boil water with a kettle, haha. You've hit the nail on the head a little though. I fear that
the mug inside the microwave will explode, and I tend to wait in any room of the house other than the kitchen!
Jazzerman, I agree with you about humanity. I'm glad I don't have a fear of pointy objects. That would be a nightmare because those things
are all over the place! Luckily for me, people don't tend to wander around with microwaves.

That's a legitimate fear, perhaps just for the wrong reason. I have an electromagnetic meter, and on the microwave setting it invariably detects
leakage around the doors and hinges of microwaves, especially older ones. But more egregiously, the electromagnetic output of a microwave exceeds any
other appliance by far. I always stand 4 to 5 feet away from any microwave in use for that reason.
As for phobias, I'm just a nice, normal spider-bug hater.

Am I crazy? Discuss. Just wondering, are you only afraid of your own microwave or everyone else's too? I mean, not all microwaves
look the same. Is it the glass window? If so, how do you feel when you look at a normal oven, (glass door type)? Is it just the boxy shape? How
do you feel when you see a cardboard box that size? Perhaps you are a bit "allergic" to the actual micro-waves but you're translating that
fear to the object itself. I'm scared of daddy-long-legs, probably because when I was small I got bitten on the face by a dog and one flew at me
a couple of minutes later. I scream and run when I see a daddy-long-leg but it's probably a subconscious fear of being bitten on the cheek again.
Or, it could be you've been scalded in the past and don't want it to happen again. I have a slight phobia of calor gas heaters. I pause when
I switch one on because I think it's going to explode and kill me. Dunno why.

You guys are probably gonna laugh at this, but what about reincarnation? Perhaps in you past life, you had a terrible incident involving a microwave.
Maybe some sort of a prank that made you lost your hand?
Many of irrational phobias could be explained that way
As for my phobias - wasps. Whenever I see one, I panic. I must run away. I'm even incapable of killing the thing when it flies into my room

Thats a decent point, but i thought that phobias came from genetic memory. Something that is passed down through families.
But if reincarnation is true(i hope its not like people think it is), than you may have a point.

Yeah, IF reincarnation is true. It's a pretty interesting thing to research, but it's still a hypothesis far away from a theory (if I understand
these two terms correctly ).
Genetic memory... what if my parrents, grand-grand-grandparents never had a phobia like that? This also is more unlikely when a microwave is involved,
since they're on the market since... like late 1970s? It is likely no one in Pandapple's family ever had a phobia like that! How does genetic memory
explain that?

how do you know if the reincarnation is real, you may reincarnate backwards in time. time is only linear in 3d reality. considering there may be
infinite realities, and earths, then if your soul exists how do you know you only exist in this reality for ever. the universe and reality is far
weirder than anyone knows.
genetic memory is real, i think they have done experiments, but do not ask me for proof.

I see no one so far has been irresponsable enough to post a link to a page showing Unwise microwave experements.
So allow me! Go on try this at home!
Regarding the Phobia about pointy things, I used to know someone who had simular, if he noticed something pointing in his direction he would move it,
or himself - even for pens. At the time I sorta dismissed it as attention seeking.
As for me my phobia is work - hence at home on monday afternoon contemplating a bacon sandwich and a can of cider

Maybe you are sensitive to higher frequencies at a subconscious level and know that the microwaves are not good for you. You feel them and then you
feel the need to run away. Basic fight or flight instinct.
P.S. Could you tell me about your mother?

Sometimes when you know in your soul that you are sinning... it will manifest as a fear or guilt.
Try cooking with wood.

I know exactly where he is coming from. I have to arrange everything on my desk at work so that no pointy objects are facing my way, and have had to
hide pens and other things so they are not in my line of vision. As far as it being a method of attention seeking...maybe, but I have always thought
of mine as being a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or something similar. I also have a tendancy to "arrange" things in perfect order and
perfect symmetry in relation to one another, and I don't know why, just always have done it. It even goes so far as to when I write something and I
think my writing is a little "sloppy", I will sit there and correct my "sloppiness" until my handwriting looks perfect.
It's amazing that I am a functional adult, but I don't let my weirdness get to me too much and I have learned to control it quite well.

I have agoraphobia, badly. I mean, it's so bad that I don't act like everyone else at parties,
dances, et cetera. It's crazy.
