Tasty food tempts prisoners to stay in Indian jail

newsinfo.inquirer.net

BANGALORE, India -- Inmates at a prison in southern India are eating so well that many are reluctant to leave while other convicted criminals are trying to move in, a newspaper said Thursday.

The Parappana Agrahara prison in Bangalore is crowded with 4,700 inmates, more than twice its capacity, because small-time criminals are refusing to apply for bail, according to the Bangalore Mirror.

Hmm, refusing to apply for a bail because of the good food?
It does not worth it IMO. Freedom is more important than that.

I wonder if something similar to this is happening in US jails.

Not around here it isn't. Our county jail's daily lunch is a bologna sandwich -- no cheese, no spreads -- and an apple or orange.

I am not surprised that this is happening in India, though. It may be the only food some of these people get regular access to. Life in India is rough on anyone without a little cash.
