Ok so I’m here at work bored and I was reading through the AppleiTunes ToS and found some interesting notes.
"You also agree that you will not use these products for any purpose prohibited by United States law, including, without limitations,
the development, design, manufacture or production of missiles, or nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. "
Why is this here? check out Sec.2 and Sec.10

Yhea that sec 10 bit is odd. The sec. 2 bit is fairly straight foward, its just an exctension of the sort of warnings about using mobiles in
hospitals / petrol stations etc.
That second half of sec 10 - are you lot over in US seeing this a lot in terms for things you buy? Is it a new thing?

Well its known over here that Sony and Microsoft cannot ship Xbox360 or PS3 to the Middle East because both machines use a 128bit encryption that is
harder than military grade. Or so the rumors here say. There are some that say the EU PS3 had so many problems because of this and that they had to
dummy the software on them. But what I don’t understand is if they don’t want them to have these systems because of the software why make it easy
for them to buy it? What prevents someone from buying say 300 of them shipping them to some European country and then driving them to their
destination?

I'm sure you can encrypt to 128 or more with the right software and a run of the mill PC.
Don't know for sure cos this is the first time i've given it roo much thought. - wasn't PGP (pretty good protection) 128 bit, or even true 128
bit, which may be differant. Any one? Gonna look later.
Any who: if your involved in "the devolopment, design, manafacture or production of missiles, or nuclear, chemcal or biological weapons" *phew* then
apart from prob being a very nasty pasty - 128 bit encryption would be the least of your probs

my main question (not that i want to do this) is how it would be possible to use itunes software to design and develop this? its a music dl
software...what makes them think they can use it for that purpose? or is there some sinister plan involving Apple??

I can only think money - same reason McDonalds prints 'careful hot' on the coffee cups, to cover their asses
They don't want to get taken for everything the share holders are waiting for just cos some **INSERT SOMETHING INSULTING TO SOMEONE HERE** used an
Ipod in an IED

hahaha, I can see it now,
kids making bombs with musical triggers/ fuses, at the end of the 10 min drum and bass song BOOM!
or even a certain octive of a ringtone that sets it off, fairly funny but also reminds you what day and age we live in,
Just imagine if lincoln logs had " do not use as fuel to power your death ray, A-bomb or other WMDs. thank you, please enjoy your stacking.

If I was the type of person who would develop missiles, nuclear, chemical or biological weapons, do you REALLY think that I would obey the terms of
service for Itunes?
"Achmed! We must use this software to finalize our nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons!"
"But Hasan, the terms of service expressly forbid it!"
"Dang it Achmed! Foiled again!"

I'm sure it's more of a social statement sort of thing.
I don't know why they forgot to point out that the iProduct is also dolphin safe, didn't destroy any ancient forests, had no animals used in
testing, is approved by Noam Chomsky, contributed to the upkeep of Jerry Garcia's gravesite, has no transfats etc.

At the other end of the spectrum, if you got caught making WMD and were going to Gitmo, do you think ipod would prosecute the guy as well? Doubtful.
I wonder who the genius was that thought this tos was a good addition. Most electronics can be used in weapon building given enough know how. Way to
go ipod, giving future terror students the idea when they buy one.
