Last week, a senior official in one of the world’s wealthiest states suggested that one third of all government jobs should go to women.

Switzerland? Denmark? France?

Wrong, the country is Saudi Arabia, and the senior official is Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the crown prince. In a state that has embraced the most misogynous readings of the Koran and a society that remains deeply patriarchal, Prince Sultan’s statement was truly revolutionary.

Well this is refreshing. Despite what religious fanatics and people who know nothing of Islam except what they are told; Muhammad's teachings about women and the rights he granted them were revolutionary at the time... 600AD.

Apparently the Saudi royal family (or some of them anyway) have woken up to the fact that the only way to combat effectively the Islamic extremists is to start living up to the ideals of the Quran, especially those that benefit of the community; which, for those who do not know, is vitally important in Islam; and the ignoring of which has given the extremists such a firm foothold.
