Well, regionally speaking at least. I live in Knoxville TN and this one was found in Madisonville - about 40 miles south of me. Anyway, enuff about me:

Fortunately, for those with an interest in knowing, there are specialists in this kind of thing, and they have delivered their findings over the past couple of weeks through various organizations and on international Web sites devoted to studying crop circles that pop up worldwide.

"We now have enough scientific evidence to conclude that this formation was not man-made," said Jeff Wilson, the Cincinnati, Ohio-based director of the Independent Crop Circle Research Association.

On Memorial Day weekend, Wilson, 38, led a team of volunteer researchers from around the country to the spot near Madisonville where the circles are, off Rocky Springs Road on land owned by the family of former Tennessee Sen. Estes Kefauver. Wilson's team took more than 1,500 samples from the site.

The nodes of the wheat were microscopically analyzed and found to show unnatural elongation, Wilson said. Furthermore, the stems of the wheat showed evidence of "expulsion cavities" usually not created by natural means but reproducible through the application of heat such as might be produced by microwaves.

The area within the circle also showed higher-than-average levels of radiation and electromagnetic activity. These characteristics have been noted in other plants where crop circles have been found, he added.

Hmmm. Tried to edit the above post to add a local news station STORY about this circle but it wouldnt take.

I have always wondered why there are so many varieties of circles found. IMO, if these are supposed to be a means of communication of some type, as some think, I, as an alien visitor, would stick to one message until it was apparent that it was understood, then move on to more complex messages and progress along those lines instead of spreading what amounts to potentially interdimensional/intergalactic graffitti that only the artist understands. Weird way to communicate, if that is what its intentions are.

Crop Circles in your back yard.
I hoax crop circles for a living, that and
run a Motor Cycle store. My mates call me
'Choppa The Croppa'
The other night me and Roy Shnieder, also
known as 'The Blue Raj' were forming a basic
circle in a wheat field near Glastonbury UK.

The sky was cloudless and a light breeze made
the cereal whisper it's quiet song. Roy was padding
the inner part while I traced the radius with orange
farmer twine and a stout staff. The tools of our trade
were laid close by when I accidently stepped backwards
onto the rake.
I saw stars and through the tears and the pain, I heard
the handle break off and I suddenly realised where the rake
had inserted itself.
Well! We perceivered with the circle, knowing I would have to
take a visit to the doctor soon.
Roy finished his toil and after packing our tools onto our
respective bicycles, we set off for Dr. Fell's house.

Anyone who's ever rode a bicycle over cobble stones with
haemeroids will relate to you the pain that wracked my body,
We made it to the doc's and after his expertise in removing lodged
wood, we set off to watch the hippies and tourists oggle at our
artwork.
We stopped at a small copse that looks over our field, the leafy
hideout would keep some of the night's chill away.
That's when we found Vance.
A man lay near the lane that led down to the wheat field, he was
covered in a strange goo and was also wearing a dress!
Like a Bo-Peep from hell, the man laid 'Da Vinci-like' on the gravelled
track and as I carefully dismounted, I noticed a broken shepherd's crook
in his bruised and scraped hand.
I 'gently' hunkered down to see if he was okay when I heard him
whisper "... the circles will tell you everything"

The rest is history, we gathered him up and took him back to
Dr. Fell's house.
Back to the topic, I believe that all crop circles are hoaxes.

O- I guess it wouldn't hurt that I've looked at this on wikipedia. This is what Wikipedia said:

Crop circle is a term used to describe geometrical formations of flattened crops — primarily wheat, barley, canola, rye, corn, linseed and soy — that sometimes appear on different locations around the world.

The phenomenon itself was observed in its current form after notable appearances in England in the late 1970s. Cereologists, or crop circle enthusiasts, soon offered various paranormal and naturalistic explanations for the phenomenon. In 1991, two men named Doug Bower and Dave Chorley revealed that they had been making crop circles in England since 1976 using planks, rope, hats, and wire as their only tools.[1][2] Circlemakers.org,[3] a UK-based arts collective founded by John Lundberg have been creating complex crop circles since the early 1990s.[4]

Colin Andrews has published a book entitled Crop Circles, Signs of Contact, claiming that "based on our research, I concluded that approximately 80 percent of all the crop circles we investigated in England from 1999 through the year 2000 were manmade. This was one of the most important research findings to date because it cut to the core of what is truly important: the remaining 20 percent of the crop circles showed no sign of human hands."[3] This claim has been contested by the CSICOP, which notes that some of the alleged 20% 'genuine' crop circles have been documented as man-made and there is no reliable criterion for distinguishing between 'genuine' crop circles and those that are man-made. Another investigator, Freddy Silva, published Secrets in the Fields.(2002)[20] He paraphrases Gerald Hawkins' summary "If crop circles are made by hoaxers, then they should stop doing it, because they are breaking the law and damaging the food supply. If they are made by UFO aliens, they shouldn't give us back the dates of our trips to Mars and the names of the men from the Titanic era - famous, clever, but now forgotten. If some are transcendental, the power behind it should realize that our culture is not now willing to accept transcendental happenings. But if they are indeed transcendental, then society will have to make a big adjustment in the years ahead."(p299)
