Abbas also fired Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas, dismantled the Hamas-Fatah coalition and said he would form a new government.

Abbas is also considering early elections at some stage, said his aide, Tayeb Abdel Rahim, in a news conference. Abdel Rahim said Abbas may "return to the people" when circumstances allow.

This does not look good.

The only words of peace or reason seem to come from fatah-the less of the 2 evils.

things are setting up for the summer war we have been promised.

The terrorist Hamas has won the civil war.The moderate Fatah will be eliminated, along with any chance of a peaceful agreement. Hamas has already put out a hit list of 30 Fatah leaders they will kill. "Fatah officials and a doctor reported gangland-style executions of the defeated fighters Thursday." "There is a history to it, a vendetta and a settling of scores," said Palestinian lawmaker Hanan Ashrawi."

I fear you are correct.

This will only advance the war in the summer.

Hamas will not win the West Bank, Abbas retreated into the West Bank and he will be backed by the U.S. So, Hamas is only in control of the Gaza Strip. Eventually Israel will bomb Gaza to smitherines. So yeah, now there are two palestines. A west led by Hamas and an East led by Fatah. I think Fatah should form an alliance with Israel and Jordan.

That would be the smart move to make.

Make peace with Israel- a real one- and then get western help/aid/$$

This will make Abbas the legal legitimate gov of the area. (as far as the west is concerned)
