This is interesting. However, the failure of navigation systems really wouldn't cause an aircraft to crash. All commercial aircraft as well as most
small planes would still retain the ability for basic navigation in zero visibility even with a complete electrical failure. The attitude indicator
and heading indicator are gyroscopic instruments driven by a mechanical vacuum pump. The altimeter, vertical speed indicator and airspeed indicator
are all reliant on outside air pressure.
As far as engine failures, I guess I'm not sure what strong EM fields might do. It's possible. But based on the amount of reports we see where
pilots have UFO's following them, etc, it seems unlikely to me that UFO's would account for many aircraft crashes, if at all.
