My Book is finally available......

I have talked about my book THE DEAD ARE TALKING for a long time, and I can now finally announce its release and availability through Amazon!

The book tracks my rollercoast ride form sceptic to believer and documents my research into all things paranormal. It may just CHANGE the way you think about ghosts!! It also charts the effects the research had on my personal life.

I guess everyone else plugs their books on my radio show, so a little self-promotion must be allowable? lol

Congratulations on getting published! I am curious, have you ever heard of Victor Zammit?

www.victorzammit.com...

I haven't gone through everything in his book, only a few chapters, but it sounds like his research is along exactly the same lines as yours. Maybe you could have him on your show or something :p

Congratulations, Ross. As a writer myself I know that the release of a new book is like having a baby. I'll certainly pick it up, but as I said on the other thread, I wouldn't mind getting the audio version, so long as the content is complete and unabridged (I hate condensed books, like you get from Readers Digest. For me that's just like cutting holes in a painting!)

I'm interested in your journey from Skeptic to Believer; it's a path more people are walking in that direction than in the other!

Thanks one and all - yes it's been a long time coming but it's finally out there now and available at last! lol

The journey many of us take from secptic to believer really does take you on a rollercoaster ride which CAN destroy your relationships, your finances and in some cases your life. My book documents not only the research and findings, but also the effect on my life over the past ten years, so it really lets you see inside me as a person, as well as possibly changing your views on exactly what a ghost may be!

It is pleasing to finally see it as a hard copy out there on the shelves, and has made me realise just how hard it can be to get a book published these days! At least I found a publisher, many have to self-publish.

Hope you all enjoy it - and maybe some of you will do some reviews on the forum here?

Re: Victor Zammit

Yes I have spoken to Victor on a number of occasions, and he was going to be a guest on my show but wasn't well that week and had to pull out - you have just reminded me to contact him to try to reschedule thanks!

Stock of my book The Dead Are Talking is now being sold on the following site

www.witchcraftshop.co.uk... - go to the section that says "SHOP" then "Books" then "general and esoteric". It's £9.50 and i'm told its a VERY interesting read by those who have read it so far!

It appears that many have changed their views on what a ghost actually may be after reading it!

I'm glad people seem to like it!

I'll get the audio when it's available. I've just bought the paperback from the Witchcraft place. It looks like a good shop and I'd rather give them my custom than Amazon.

Hiya

Let me know when the book arrives as I am chartingf deleivery times from the various outlets stocking it.

I understand that the audio version will shortly be available on audible.com

Thanks for buying a copy! I'm sure you will enjoy it - all the early reviews are very positive and most have said "it has changed the way I think about the paranormal"!

Hi Ross, must feel good being published. The cover of your book is compelling. I'll probably buy it just on account of that, but do you think you or the publisher will sign up for Amazon's Search Inside program? I buy more books that I can preview than those I can't. Good luck!

I've not heard of the "search inside" programme - tell me more?

By the way - the inside is even better than the cover lol!! The reviews so far have been excellent.

There's two advantages to it--words inside the book become searchable keywords for Amazon users, and the book has a few sample pages--usually the table of contents, a few pages from the 1st chapter, and the index--available to read. I'd say more books have it than not. I rarely buy a book that doesn't have it unless I already know that I want it. I think it's free. Here are the particulars: www.amazon.com...

I'm sure I'll enjoy it after seing your speech at Probe. I got into Spiritualism a few years ago after wanting to know more about it. I've seen ghostly things several times in my life (the most recent time was just a few weeks ago). I'll let you know when it arives.

I'm glad you got a good review, Ross. Not that there's such a thing as a bad review. Anything that metions your name is good! An uncomplimentary review can be as good for sales as a complimentary one. I bought a great book once: Dark Moon, after reading its review in Focus magazine; whose title was "One to avoid at all costs!"

I never read a review until I've read the book myself because I like to make up my own mind. I know a bloke who didn't go to the flicks to see a movie because it had a bad review! That means that these people known as "critics" are controlling what he thinks!

I'm about half way through it.

It's really good. The stories of your ghost hunting exploits sound really scarey, but very interesting. I remember some of them from the TV show. Ghosts seem to be more common than people think. Am I right in thinking that it's not so much finding haunted places, but finding out how to find images and data on ghosts wherever they might be, which is all over the place? Are what we call "haunted houses" just places with more ghostly activity than usual and that other places are where this activity is less, but not absent?

The way ghost hunting effected your personal life sounds to me a bit like what the Fortean zoologist Jonathan Downes calls "psychic backlash". He says that many people, including himself suffered from strange problems when they began investigating the paranormal. When Jon Downes started to do it, two of his cats died and his car kept breaking down, even though mechanics could find nothing wrong with it.

The chapter on Skeptics is the best so far. I nver realized that you'd actually offered Randi your own equivalent of his own challenge. He's kept quiet about that! this is all he says and I've bolded up the interesting bit:

"Reader Barry Moyle informs me:

You may be aware of the website www.phantomorfraud.com. I sent an e-mail to these people questioning their statement: "Dowsing works, that has been proven time & again." "Dowsing" is listed as a topic on left hand side of their home page. I also suggested they should apply for your million dollar prize & forwarded a copy of your "The matter of Dowsing" from Swift, vol.2 no 3/4. January 1999.
I received a somewhat rude reply, addressed to "Mr. Eyes Closed", from a Mr. Ross Hemsworth. Amongst other things, he said "it's not our job to convince other skeptics, or indeed to chase money from other skeptics who require convincing" and "being a dowser myself, I KNOW it works"!

However, what interested me is his saying "I am in daily contact with James Randi, and he is very aware of the research we are doing." I know you are a busy man Mr. Randi but I would be very pleased to have your comment on that. He also asks that I do not waste his time by further contacting him because I do not have an open mind. I shall oblige him.

Barry, you must recognize that the million-dollar challenge is probably the single most-feared element in the belief system these people have constructed. They can't respond to it, because they know they can't perform as they fantasize they can. This delusion is so cherished, so important to them, that they will invent, distort, and lie in order to avoid facing the truth. Indeed, truth is their greatest enemy, and it is brought up to them by the JREF challenge, every day.

Ross Hemsworth has written me only once — on an entirely different matter — but I am certainly not "in daily contact" with him. He makes such claims because he is alarmed, but understandably so, because he sees the great threat that is offered to his self-delusion, if he is in any way called upon to face reality. "

He doesn't say what that matter is!

Here's something else about the Skeptic Movement that will interest you:

Project Alpha is the scheme by James Randi to expose what he saw as deficiencies in parapsychology investigations. He planted two illusionists in a parapsychology institute to see how far they could get pretending to have real supernatural powers, when all they were doing was stage magic. According to Randi, the scientists investigating them swallowed their claim hook, line and sinker. They declared unequivocally that this was the “real thing”. Then, at the moment the two were presented to the world, they came clean and admitted the whole thing was a hoax. Project Alpha has attained legendary status in the Skeptic community. However there’s another side to the story:

michaelprescott.typepad.com... 07/03/project_alpha.html

So Skeptics like Randi, the self-styled fraud-buster, are not above a little deception themselves. It’s something to bear in mind if you ever apply for the $Million Challenge.

Ah yes the old Mr Randi thing lol!

Like most sceptics, he will tell only his side of the story, he has never publicised my challenge to him, but somewhere deep in the archives, is the e-mail from him declining my challenge!

As for hauntings - I now believe that everywhere and anywhere can be "haunted" because a genuine psychic/clairvoyant can contact from almost any spot, although areas of energy lines/geographic fault lines, seem to produce better results. I believe that these energies act as a power-source for the entities which is maybe why many well known "hauntings" are on or close to these energy points.

Some well established "hauntings" actually produce very little on investigations as the energies have been weakened by constant teams doing their stuff there, and others rely on their "hauntings" for money-making tours etc which I fear may be far more real than the hauntings themselves!

Glad you are enjoying my book - and thanks for your support.

Ross
