Israel has similarly fortified its own border defences and on Tuesday conducted well-publicised war games which included a simulated attack on a Syrian village and a surprise attack by Syrian commandoes on the Golan Heights. With both sides on alert and deeply mistrustful of the other's intentions, it is widely feared that a misstep could spark a war that neither side wants....

Again, as with just about every powder keg in the middle east - hopefully cooler heads prevail and no sparks are introduced to the pile.

If this does happen, I'd imagine the usual - US made equipment wipes out Russian made equipment in days to weeks - any attempt at a ground war turns into bloody guerilla warfare. Everyone is unhappy. Etc. Doesn't Iran have some pact with Syria saying that war on Syria is war on Iran?
