This is an email that was forwarded to me, I know it's long, but really hit me the wrong way!

(text of email)
Everyone should read this............even my friends who are Democrats!!

JOHN GLENN SAID
Things that make you think a little:
There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January.
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq .
When some claim that President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following:
a. FDR led us into World War II.
b. Germany never attacked us ; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives
were lost ...an average of 112,500 per year.
c. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never
attacked us.From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ..an average of 18,334
per year.
d John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never
attacked us.
e. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives
were lost .. an average of 5,800 per year.
f. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a
platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on
multiple occasions.
g. In the years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated
two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear
inspectors in Libya , Iran, and North Korea without firing a shot, and
captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking.
But Wait.......
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch
Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation..
We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons in Iraq for less time
than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy
the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police
after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high!
The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.
(end of email)

I cut off the last part, it went on to talk about a debate by Senator Glenn and Senator Metzenbaum in 2004, and Metzenbaum being a lawyer representing the nazi party in WWII. (I will post the rest of it if anyone wants me to.)

Anyway, I had to reply:

(my reply)
No disrespect, but I have a different way of looking at this....I do agree that our involvement in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia, etc...was started for the wrong reasons, however that doesn't make it right in any shape or form to invade Iraq. The 9/11 terrorists were supposedly sent by Osama bin Laden in AFGHANISTAN, not Iraq.

Our troops should be honored, respected and admired for the job they are doing, whether they agree with the war or not, they have to follow orders.

In my opinion, not a single drop of US or Iraqi blood should be spilled over an invasion that was admittedly started on false intellegence.

I guess the bottom line is, my 18 year old son (who's getting sent over there) looked at me and said, " I want to come back home in one piece, if I come back." That brought it all home to me really quickly. That's why I feel so strongly about this.

Had to put in a plug for my favorite website!

Has anyone else seen this forward and what do y'all think about it?

I can't believe the lack of support for the troops in the US. Those boys are doing a fantastic job in an environment that is more hostile and unforgiving than the majority of civvies could even comprehend. Whether the invasion was right or wrong is not important. The troops don't get to pick and choose their fight. All they can do is fill their sandbags, patrol the streets and try to stay alive. The rest is all just window dressing.

I hope your lad is ok. Tell him to keep his head down, trust no-one and look after his mates. Don't alienate the locals but take no sh1t either. If it goes down remember two up, bags of smoke and loads of aggression.

Hmm....John said all of this ? Is that what you are saying ?

If so, where is it documented, other than an e-mail ?

I'm getting a whiff of something, and it really doesn't smell like truth.

Just my 2 cent,
Lex

Lex,

No, I wasn't saying that John Glenn said all those things. I was just posting an email that I received. Like you, I thought something didn't sound right about it all. Also, I was at work and didn't have time to do research on it, so was just asking for opinions at the time.

The whole tone of it seemed to be trying to make it look like the US is doing so great in Iraq and if anyone disagrees with them being there, then they are against the soldiers themselves.

I probably should have just hit delete when I got it. lol
