81 year old living with more then 100 rats

Topic started on 7-6-2007 @ 08:41 AM by SuperSlovak

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Officers seized more than 100 pet rats, dozens of rabbits and other animals from the home of an 81-year-old woman, who was later treated at a hospital for what appeared to be bites, authorities said.

"The woman had no food in the house for herself and seemed disoriented," said Annette Ramirez, an officer with the city's Animal Services Department. "Her arms were covered with open wounds apparently caused by animal bites."

81 year old living with rats

First of all why would you be living in a house infested with rats and second of all why would you stay there if they bite you?

the human race never fails to amaze me.

According to the article it started with two and spiraled out of control. I guess my question would be; Where was her family and why didn't they step in and help? This is sad; the poor lady she doesn't deserve to be mocked.

Strikes me that they were just amongst a menagerie of animals the lady had for pets. Its like the old ladies that have many cats for company.

You often hear of these people, many pets but no food for themselves. I wonder if its loneliness or some mental condition?

The report says that they "seized more than 100 pet rats, dozens of rabbits and other animals" and that she had "animal bites". I would suggest that with more than 100 animals present there were many biting candidates.....maybe it was a vampire Bunny!!! Now thats weird!!!

Keep yer cigs away from her house.

thats just odd, rats as pets is one thing but rats, rabbits, an prolly roaches im guessing since it couldnt be the most sanitary conditions.

Rats do make really cool pets - like someone said before its a variotation on the old cat lady thing.

I had loads of rats as a kid, as I was a bit older I bred 2 litters of about 25 kittens (yhea there called kittens) each. The parents are really good with them, and they really get on with people much much better than a pet rat from a pet shop. But young adult males will try to mate with the kids from the age of about 2 weeks, and all the females could be pregnent by something like 6 weeks old if your not carefull. (although as adult males get older and wiser they grow out of it and undersupervision it great to watch em with the kids)

Adults should be seperated at the birth and kids sepeated at the right time as their growing up - Or else!! I think gestation is 6 weeks, so 15 females born on January 1st could easily be 450 by the end of March

Rats make wicked pets for kids tho, just keep males with males and females with femails. Only breed if you have enough different accomadition (more than just girls and boys - 25-30 rats is a handfull!) and have homes for em all to go to!

Wow, that's both insanely disgusting and disturbing. I'm willing to bet that old lady has some serious mental issues.
