OS Treaty states that the observation aircraft should be unarmed, should provide seats for flight monitors(s) belonging to the observed party and should only be equipped with sensors as approved by the Treaty (photo, video, IR and SAR); the best ground resolution permitted for the imagery is 30 cm.
No territory may be declared "sensitive" or prohibited but the flight may be diverted/deviated by the flight controllers (during the flight) for flight safety reasons only.
The observation aircraft belongs to the observing party or to a third party which must be also state party to the Treaty.
Other technical provisions are also included into the Treaty.

1. the US uses it's own plane for open skies the OC-135 a variant of the OC-135....

2.even if they're allowed to take pictures of anything military...they still have to listen to the local ATC...i.e.:

ATC:we need you to vector to blah blah blah due to other aircraft in the area
OC-135: D4m nit...i wanted to fly over that base
ATC: to bad flight safety
(dramatized for effect)

3. even with "spy" sattelites...the window in which something can be viewed can be calculated...and there fore anything of sensitivity can be hidden or on a mission when time rolls around

I have the waypoints for the Mt. Stirling hike. It is much easier than Tikaboo, at least to the point where Papoose Lake can be observed.

My interest was to watch the Divine Strake blast, which got canceled. Here are some cheesy panoramas I slopped together for exploratory purposes. I don't hike with the telescope until I know the proper route.

Sorry to dig up and old thread but I was going to make another one but after using the search function I found this one. Anyway Russia will be performing observation flights over the U.K. in accordance with Open Skies Treaty.
I'm only really replying as I'd never heard of it before but also for those who will read about a Russia aircraft over the U.K. if they hear it in he news won't have to panic and make a doom porn thread. Anyway here's the link I read it on in goes on to say how the flight will take place out of Brize Norton and will have British officials on board

tass.com...

For the record: trying To work out how to put a snippet of text from the link. I'm using my phone atm and sometimes it doesn't want to play ball

I've had to copy and paste some of the text as me an my phone are disagreeing and having a special moment.

"MOSCOW, May 15. /TASS/. A group of Russian military experts will perform an observation flight over the United Kingdon under international Open Skies Treaty, Sergei Ryzhkov, the head of Russia’s Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, said on Sunday."

""The observation flight will be performed in a period from May 15 to 19, 2017 from the Open Skies airdrome Brize Norton. The maximum range of the flight will be 2,400 kilometers," he said."

"The flight will be performed onboard an An-30B plane along the route agreed upon with the British side. British specialists will be on board the plane "to monitor compliance with the provisions of the treaty," Ryzhkov added."

Open skies treaty eh....? So if Russia were to fly a Mig-31 recon plane above America... all we could do is sit on our arses?

They can not use combat aircraft of any type.
That means a Mig aircraft or bear bomber would not be allowed.
They can use civilian or military cargo type aircraft.

adsb tracking of Open Skies

You can track the Open Skies plane with ADS-B if you know the tail number.

Nice post. I didn't know representatives of the host country also fly in the plane, but that makes sense.

Thanks Gariac I don't have the tail number unfortunately maybe some digging and I'll be able to find it but I'm not that skilled when it comes to doing that's. Would be interesting to see if it flies over my house maybe the Russians want to spy on me

But like I said I only posted as I'd never heard it before and just found it interesting.

Off topic as this is an old quiet thread, love your work on Groom your threads I always read even if I don't understand them fully would love to get my back side to the states and spend time in the desert

If you trawl the aviation forums, you will probably find the tail number.

There should be no reason to fly over your house. I assume the "visiting" country has already picked their targets based on satellite imagery, open source intelligence, and sneaky stuff. They probably have no interest in your house.*

You can view most aircraft over your house with one of these links.

adsb desktop

adsb mobile

* Now for the asterisk. A friend of a friend of a friend owns a former CIA "safe house." I've yet to get a tour. Now maybe they would fly over a suspected safe house, but then that house wouldn't be deemed safe anymore. Besides, unless you live in "denied territory," they can just park by your house and spy on you.

BTW, there is no shortage of spook stuff to spy on in the UK.

Ha yup thanks for the heads up over the years I've been coming to the site I've learnt a few things I use Flightradar24 a lot I'm located just east of London we get a lot of air traffic coming past from all the major airports in the south east of England. I've only been aware of adsb for a little while thanks for the mobile version hadn't used that before. I thought I knew my aviation until I came here and when I did I was amazed hah. As for the forums it's having the time I've been engrossed in some threads and before I know it 2 hours has gone by but that's what I love about this place and I appreciate what people share

I wasn't worried about them flying over I was more excited might of been able to get a few pics

Fr24 does some censoring. Adsbexchange does not censor.

In the US, there is the BARR list. Owners request not to be tracked. Flightaware uses a combination of a FAA feed and a network of adsb decoders, but the FAA interface requires them to censor based on a government list. I think fr24 is strictly adsb, but they censor a little. Adsbexchange is an exchange, so hey, we're not responsible.

noise trackers

The noise trackers have a nice playback feature, but coverage is spotty.
