Well said my Brother in Blue...

That is exactly how I see things as well..

I just wish that more of our brothers would "get out" so to speak and get involved..

My Opinions

I dont blame cops for not posting in this forum, it's probably hard for them to take with the regular joe making them look like fools everytime they post.

But hey I guess if you dont have 10 other buddies to gang up on somebody then it's not worth defending your point of view.

But hey it's not like posting onto a message boards going to make any difference to anybody.

And PLEASE, I am not "fishing" for cop haters just to get into another heated debate, so please if all you have to say is a hate comment, I ask that you refrain. I will not defend my profession on this thread, that is not my purpose...

I guess this was a waste of space on ATS, that or some are not sharp enough to read before they comment..

sempor, one person trying to bait you? That's not too bad a ratio to all the rest. And there's one in every crowd.

He's like the test monkey, to see if it's a bad temper that causes cops to leave here.

Ignore the trolls Semper ignore the trolls. Some people will continue to hate cops at least til they need them. After their emergency is over they'll go right back to hating. That attitude speaks to those types not to cops.

Fact is most cops I've dealt with are intelligent articulate people. Most have college and a desire to protect and serve. Those are the majority however, as with all groups you will have the not so sterling.

I said all that to say this; perhaps those attitudes is what keeps cops from posting. Perhaps it is a case of feeling what's the use. It wouldn't be easy to deal with people who won't look past the uniform and see the person 40 hours or more a week only to deal with those attitudes on time off.

Semper, some of these trolls who try to bait you are doing so because they feel like it's their one shot to get it off their chest for something that happened in the past. And let's face it, there are times that cops act all too human. Here's a little tidbit to show that point, and it's really funny too, when you picture it.

semper, I have a problem, and I think it's called 'terminal computer stupidity'. I try to get a link up, but they often do not work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Anyway go to: www.wmur.com...

When I type that into my computer, it goes right to the story.

Now I"ll try to get a link to work, and see if I can do it right.

www.wmur.com/news/13460017/detail.html

I hope that works. And I hope I learned something here. I have taught myself on this thing, and I'm a poor teacher.

Posting with fingers crossed.

[Edit by NGC- OK, I guess I was overdoing it. The first blue link works just the way I typed it in. The second one does not because I used the little globe thing like I understood from the instructions. *Sigh*]

I would think that it would be difficult for a cop to thrive on a board like ATS. When a cop asks a question, he does it with the expectation that you're going to lie to him in order to avoid getting arrested. So his job demands that he be more cynical than the average person.

Cops also don't like to be second-guessed, nor do they like to be challenged, or put in a position where they are not in control.

Some of those characteristics serve him well in his job, but not on a discussion board like ATS.

I would imagine that there are discussion boards where a cop would feel right at home. Boards where he is surrounded with other cops. Boards that discuss enforcement techniques, or weapons technology, for example.

As for the two cases that Semper mentioned, I'd have to read their posts before I could say one way or the other. And I know Semper well enough to know that he would never publicly state their names here.

I don't think that cops in general are any less likely to fit in ATS than any other class of citizens, except on the grounds that I have already listed.

Bulletin boards aren't for everyone and I think most people use them to find out about things and then move on.

It's not as easy to pigeon-hole cops as it once was I think, but I do tend to think that most cops are more spatial than verbal and will tend to spend their free time doing other things, but the spatial types are a huge chunk of society.

Also, we just don't know who's a cop and who isn't anymore than we know who's black and who's not.

Half the membership here could be cops and we wouldn't know it.

My Opinion

Yes maybe some are not smart enough to read that "not fishing for cop haters" but others like myself could care less this board is not "fishing for cop haters"

Oh No everubody hates Police until they need them right!!! It's like once someone steals from or assaults you you automatically must call the Police and make a complaint like a wee lil girl would.

"Cops have a desire to protect and serve?" maybe themselves but not the avaerage joe on the street.

Yes cops are human what do you think cops are aliens from space?

Maybe maybe LOL kidding

Ooh this must be my one shot to get all my problems off my chest for what happened in the past thats gotta be it, theres no other explanation!! LOL

all this is my opinion

Miishgoos, your posts speak for themselves. If you wish to be a troll have at it; so far in my opinion your contribution has been less then helpful and downright insulting. There is no need to insult Semper or any other poster on this thread.

My Dad has been a cop pretty much most of his life as well as my uncles, to be perfectly honest i cant imagine any of them ever joining an alternative site such as ATS.
This is probably not true of all cops but the ones ive grown up with are all a rather dour lot and really not very imaginative. (sorry semper)
My old mans very good at things like puzzles and handyman diy stuff, is very patient but does not suffer fools. I would imagine he'd be banned from here within minutes of joining.
He never played imaginary games with us kids when we were little, but that may have more to do with the era he grew up in than anything else but it seems to fit.
The thing that i remember most is that all the cops and their families used to socialise together, i struggle to remember more than one or two families that we knew that were not in some way involved in the force.
I cant say whether this is true of all cops but it is true of the portion that i knew personally.
Perhaps because of the ostracism / vitriol that they suffer from many parts of society they only feel comfortable in the company of other cops?
Interesting question Semper, not something i've ever really considered before.

Thanks mojo.
