Bid to ban smoking in NZ

tvnz.co.nz

Hone Harawira has released the first draft of legislation designed to outlaw smoking entirely, his move coinciding with World Smokefree Day on Thursday.
Harawira's draft bill comes at the same time as new research reveals smokers as young as 15 wish they had never began.
On average, Kiwi's start smoking at fourteen and a half years old.
"My aim is by 2011 to have all tobacco companies illegal in Aotearoa," he says.

There is no way this bill will pass. Hone Harawira must have left his brain at home when he came to parliament . Outlawing tobacco would be prohibition all over again the people that would benefit the most would be the criminal under world. Its bad enough that Marijuana is still illegal people should be able to smoke tobacco if they want to just don't expect me to pay for those persons health care bills.

Besides if tobacco was outlawed a new tax would be put in place or income tax would go up to cover the lost revenue that is currently gained from the taxing of the sale of tobacco.

Since some young people and other age groups smoke Marijuana despite the fact it is illegal outlawing tobacco would have the same effect people would take up smoking tobacco because it is illegal.

NZ is a nanny state with a loose co-alition of socialists in charge, including Labour, Greens and the Maori parties.

It is rather amusing that the Greens are busy campaigning to legalise smoking cannabis whilst the Maoris want to ban all smoking.

Sometimes NZ politics is as much fun as watching a kitten chase it's tail.

Funny thing is if Maoris had shares in British Imperial Tobacco... the main local distributor, they would be at the forefront of promoting smoking.

At wellington a local Maori community trust which has for ages opposed tourism development, now has some prime undeveloped harbour land and they want to turn it into a glitzy resort area, thus destroying the spot's natural charms.

Hone's been pushing this for a long time now. He'll never get any traction with it,I bet at least half of parliament smokes.Hopefully Willy or Tau will talk him out of it because indirectly alot of tax money from cigarettes/tobacco goes to fund Maori related state handouts.I hope Sue Bradford jumps on this bandwagon too.I love watching her make a twat of herself.Your right sy. NZ politicians are the biggest Muppet's around. How about "dragged through a bush backwards"Helen's cop out with the Dahli Lama because she didn't want upset the Chinese!!Even "lapdog to the potus"John.H met with the dahli Lama

Even though I'm a nonsmoker and hate the smell of that crap, I think it is bs, people should be able to smoke if they went, its their health-and wallet

Hone Harawira is nothing more than an ill-informed, monumentally racist moron who's mother brought him up on misguided and biggoted myhtical legends that have no factual evidence to back them up whatsoever.
His behavior both on and off national television is nothing more than an embarresment to his people and this country in general and his language is some of the most foul mouthed, immature, pathetic, uncontrolled, back-water gargabe that i have ever heard, to say that he is an extremely poor example to the younger generations (both maori and non-maori) is the understatement of the century.
He purpetuates and has dedicated his life to New Zealans biggest historical lie and one of the previously posted topics of debate on archeological cover-ups in history.
Anyone who humours this man with one second of their time has lowered themselves to his level of stupidity and ignorance... the man and his followers are too stupid to realise that activism and politics operate under completely differnet rules and the fact that he has been allowed to behave the way he has without some sort of censorship, loss of parlimentry privelage or (lets be honest here)... criminal charges is an embarressment to this beautiful country of ours and the elected government running it.
Grow up Hone, and let your people grow with you !!!
