I have thought about this for sometime now. I really do believe we need to stop this holiday tradition stuff.
Most holidays a commercialized, and I believe the social issue here has to due with the way we spend monies and that most holidays are one of two things, either religious or political is some way.
We all know the dates from Social Studies in high school. Why are we celebrateing things that are common knowledge and can be found in a dictionary or encylopedia?
This does effect us in so many ways. As far a commercialism, or capitalism, we by things every day to give to friends and family and such.
This habit has gotten out of hand. If we celebrate life in such a way that we are giving away gifts all the time I no longer understand the purpose of, or the use of holidays. Holidays should be kept personal and lets keep on working right on through them.

Holidays are about having fun, enjoying life and spending time with others at there most basics.

It's part of Human nature to celebrate things that we consider important, be that birthdays,
Xmas or the 4th of July.

I may not celebrate most Holidays, but I do enjoy them.

I have to agree with Iori here..

Just because someone makes money off of holidays does not mean we should do away with them?????????????

Does not even make sense in my opinion.

Holidays are a time to get together with family and friends. Holidays are sometimes the only times distant relatives can meet up (like some of mine).

If you got rid of holidays because of the money issues, you'd also take away all the great times and memories that come from holidays, and those are much, much more valuable.

Keep the holidays.

Just because business attempts to make money out of holidays, does not mean we all have to go along with this.

Public holidays do seem to be like any other day, with shops being open. If we want to reclaim holidays for days we can spend with family and friends, then we need to turn our backs on business and shoping during a holiday.
