Wi-fi and RFID used for tracking

Full Story

Wireless tracking systems could be used to protect patients in hospitals and students on campuses, backers of the technology said.

The combination of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags and wi-fi allows real-time tracking of objects or people inside a wireless network.

I know this isn't the first push to get the technology implemented, but it's certainly another milestone, especially focusing on these large types of institutions.

Now it's patients and students. How long will it be before they want to issue tags for everyone? Parents are already being offered technology on their phones to track their children. This has been possible for quite some time, but has only just recently been release for public manipulation.

I really like how the news report made sure to use the term "protect" patients and students. From whom? When have approximately 25 bank robberies a day here in the United States. But, we have another school shooting by Cho Seung-Hui and corporations ride the wave of tragedy to the shores of profit.

What are peoples thoughts about these types of technologies being used in hospitals and schools? Where is the next institution to receive a push to use tracking systems?

My bet is on government use, if only to use as an example to the general public.
