Spy Files 'Link Chirac To Secret £30m Japanese Bank Account'

www.washtimes.com

Files seized from the home of a French spy appear to confirm former President Jacques Chirac has a secret Japanese bank account worth millions of dollars.

The papers, seized from the home of Philippe Rondot, the former head of French intelligence service DGSE, reveal Chirac opened an account at Tokyo Sowa Bank in the mid-1990s containing about $60 million, The Scotsman reported Thursday.

Less the a week or so out of office and Chirac like other government/UN officials now goes under the microscope to see where his millions came from. Did he steal it from his own people or was it from kickbacks from the UN during the food for Oil scandal in Iraq?

I also doubt he could have pulled this off alone so other officials/individuals had to be involved in this conspiracy.

Um couple of questions, one why would Chirac have $30 million from the Japanese anyway, and also how would he be involved in the kickback scheme that was Australia's ABW

The story did not say the Japanese gave him the money it simply said he had a Secret account located there.

As for your 2nd question; what on earth is Australia's ABW??

Chirac may turn out to be one fo the dirtiest politicos in recent memory. We have a fair number of French ex pats in Palo Alto, and none of them ever had anything kind to say about him and they almost all implied he was on the take in a big way.

You want to kill 2-3 hours on a playground while your kids plays? Get a French guy going about internal French politics. Its an endless topic

This may be the tip of the iceberg IMHO and they also said he no longer has any protection now that he is out of office so anybody with axe to grind (legit or not) is goint to town.

I have a feeling you are going to be absolutely right.

I have been watching for later updates and for the most part the media is hushing this all up for some odd reason. I did however find a little more info from down under, which essentially is backing up what you were thinking as it implies some very deep rooted problems from his past. Oddly enough they even appeared to have named it years ago, so I assume from now on we can refer to this as the Clearstream conspiracy.

Legal sources have said investigators want to talk to Mr Chirac about fake city hall jobs and public contract scams used illicitly to fund his conservatives and other parties during an 18-year stint in charge of the French capital.

French media reported investigators found documents on the alleged back account at the Tokyo Sowa bank in the offices of a former top spy, retired General Philippe Rondot, as they were investigating the Clearstream case.

The still-unresolved Clearstream scandal nearly tore apart the Government of former Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, who was accused of trying to smear Mr Sarkozy, his political rival.

One just has to love those Australian papers they always seem to dig up what others do not
