The fun a hoaxer can get, sometimes with "giggling" mates next to them, is just a simple "I can fool you" kind of mentality. Or the "phew, that was close" from higher powers that have the resourses and knowledge to spread multi-facetted disinfo.

There are many different kinds of hoaxes. Photos, done by graphics wizkids that can be very convincing. Those who "also" saw something that was reported (but didn't). Video-takers who seem to think they have something "cool" which seemed like a UFO but they know, wasn't. And of course, there is the "report", which relies totally on the persons character..... The list goes on forever.

I have, since joining ATS, wondered, asked and suggested why there is no "Hoax" forum? To show, not only the long list of hoaxes that ATSers have so admirably proved, but to give an arena to two major parties: The hoaxers, to show them what they are up against with regard the chances of being taken seriously. And the ATSers, who would have an invaluable source of methods, procedures and friends who can help us "deny the ignorance". Hone our skills so to speak. WE are our best tool.

I have, in my short time here, reported on a couple of events, but have never believed that what I was looking at was conclusive "proof".

This is another one of those age old dilemas I feel, and the "hoax forum" could be a useful tool.

What say you?

For those not familiar with it, here is the photo in question.

It is posted on ufoevidence.org (among others), which is a decent site with lots of good photos. (As of this writing, the site is down for whatever reason.) I emailed the webmaster twice, respectfully encouraging the removal of the seagull picture, but to date, many months later, he still hasn't done so. It is a problem when, even when you take the time and trouble to try to weed out obvious hoaxes or misidentifications, those promoting it are unresponsive.
