Bosnia archaeologists fight red tape, looters (Read the article)

This appears to be first Illyrian's ships ever found. There are some records about them at Greeks and Romans, but there was never any proofs that ships existed. They are believed to be 2200 years old. There are also some graves near this location from that period.

The wooden relics of the two ships, located some eight metres under water, are believed to have been trading or pirate ships that sank in the marshlands.

At least some of the amphoras suspected to be 2,200-year-old dug in a Bosnia-Herzegovina swamp are believed to have carried wine, as
expressed by experts on Monday.

"A preliminary analysis showed amphoras, found at what are believed remains of the first-ever discovered Illyrian ships, were used for transporting wine," has stated Snjezana Vasilj, head of a Bosnian team of archaeologists.

Awesome Find!

Looks like Bosnia is full of Mythical discoveries! Not only ancient Pyramids, but also fabled ships, which have never been discovered before.

Bosnia, the place where Myth meets Reality!

Hutovo Blato, BOSNIA AND HERCEGOVINA: Photo taken 23 March 2007 shows fragments of ancient amphoras found along with what is believed to be remains of two Illyrian ships, some eight meters (26 feet) under water, in Hutovo Blato marshland, near the Southern Bosnian town of Mostar. They are believed to have been trading or pirate ships that sank in the marshlands some 2,200 years ago, and were identified as Illyrian based on design features, said Sarajevo University professor Snjezana Vasilj, whose team made the find. Illyrian ships are mentioned in Greek and Roman historic records, but this is the first time they have been found, she said. Illyrians, who frequently engaged in piracy, were the earliest known inhabitants of the western Balkans, including Bosnia, long before the Roman Empire took control of the region. Their descendants are believed to be Albanians. AFP PHOTO / COURTESY OF NERETVA DIVERS CLUB (Photo credit should read -/AFP/Getty Images)

It's a good find, but I hope no one is excited based on the distance from the Illyrians home that these were found, because they were found.. extremely close to the Illyrians homeland, some would say in it.

The Illyrians lived near present day Bosnia, and they lived near the Adriatic coastline.

The Illyrian didn't leave near present day Bosnia - they also lived in present day Bosnia! There are many Illyrian burial sites in the country.

It is interesting that is little known about them and there are different theories about their origin.*

I believe that they were a proto-indo-european tribal people, related to or descended from the Celts, otherwise known as the Gauls in those days.

They probably split off from the Gauls and went Southeast, finding a nice fertile land in the Bosnia area, being close to the sea, yet also close to mountains.

Alternatively, they could've been descendants of Thracian type tribes that went westward, but I dont really buy that.

They could also be Germanic in nature, and not Gaulic or Celtic. Maybe a tribe from modern day Switzerland ..
