al qaeda was the CIA's front in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion . Al Qaeda was a vital part of the Mujahadeen which had the support and endorsement of both American and British governments.

officially, al qaeda and the taliban are separate entities, but unofficially they work together. The Taliban is used more for deals and contracts, and was the agency which was in negotiations with Halliburton for their exploitation of the oil pipelines within Afghanistan.

bottom line. al qaeda = CIA. no ifs ands or buts

excellent point made about the parallels with Orwells 1984. If there was a modern day version of this book they would write it about Bush and Bin laden.

They invent(sorry! create, fund, arm) the enemy who amazingly vanishes into thin air in the mountains of Afghanistan. From time to time, normally around the time they need a distraction this voice appears on tape. The CIA with their black budget of what must be over $400 Billion or something come out and say

"ooh its probably Bin Laden" well thanks for that ! You would have thought they would say " Hey well yeah that sounds like our guy alright" and that is what the media should be saying in a sane society. The fact that the CIA have obviously infultrated the media to such a point is worrying in the extreme.
