ATTENTION: ATS Bloggers!!!

Hmmm, I republished a couple of my lost posts and trying to do a third one is causing me archive rebuild errors. i know my templates are solid so i have to believe we're looking at more database corruption.

Since you don't have this option and I can't turn it on for you, I will run a backup for you. I've grabbed some of the larger blogs already, but Please u2u me though so I know who to do it for.

I will do these as fast as I can.

I'm away from the computer until this evening... We might try a completely new install of MT followed by a database restore. If that doesn't work... We'll need tolock down changes to the existing blogs until a new solution is found.

One thing you CAN do is grab your templates and back them up...just in case.

Mr ZzZ, I don't have full Internet access right now, thus no U2U capability. Could you please make a back-up for me. Although we all know what government agents like yourself are capable of, so rescueing (sp) or blogs should be a breeze.

Yours was one of the first few I grabbed Gem.

I've got it.

I've honestly spent all day on this issue and I'm beat doing research. I swear I am very tempted to just start a blog from scratch (meaning we try a new software) due to the database problem being kind of a "known" problem for MovableType. Some other software platforms don't have such issues OR have such a problem dealing with spam like we've had for quite some time.

I'm sure the Overlord and I will be having discussions on this subject.

I'm going backwards through the database backups, and we have corrupt data in the backups, going back quite far.

Just chiming in here on this one, but I am feeling the same way. If this is a known issue with movable type, then I say time to try something new. No point in spending hours and hours trying to salvage something that apparently isn't that salvagable. Wouldn't want to go through this 'headache' again.

Yes, there would be some impact to the bloggers, but really, there are only a handfull who actually had an extremely customized blog, so the majority won't be losing much - especially if ATS admin snag a copy of everyones entries.

And besides, it might be fun starting over again - I'm already getting new ideas....

Since I've been doing it for a good while now (760+ posts) I've been experimenting and watching patterns. One of my bigger regrets is that I didn't make enough categories or tags. Anyway, it all seems like a moot point now. We've got seriously heavy corruption.

Not just with the comments, but also in other tables in the database.

The good news is that we have a plan of probably involve moving away from MoveableType to something more stable. It might involve a step or two back in a sense, but will allow 5 steps forward. Trust me. As a serious blogger myself, I think SkepticOverlord will make you all pretty happy. I saw some very impressive stuff behind the curtain, so to speak.

We're looking into migrating to this product:
b2evolution.net...

The information I've gathered shows much more promise for long-term growth, and interesting integration with the main discussion board.

Unfortunately, we're working on something brand-new for ATS, and it might be a week or so until we get to replacing the blog software.

For all of you that have been challenged or limited with the look of your blog in the MovableType software might appreciate looking at this:

OK, so took a look at b2evolution, and it looks to be a very good product (at least from a bloggers perspective - we'll have to rely on Skeptic Overlord to see if its a good product for ATS) and I am actually looking forward to trying it out.

I guess the only sad part is that it will be at least a week before SO gets a chance to change the blogging software (although am looking forward to seeing what the something new is). Guess I'll head over to my blog and put up a 'under construction' entry.

I've got to admit I'm excited to see the impact b2evolution will have on ATS blogs.
I've always thought that potential bloggers have been "scared away" because of complex blog design. B2evolution's "skins" should make things pretty user friendly.

I certainly hope there are simple yet complete instructions on this. I realize some of you could do this sort of thing in your sleep, but some of us are a few lightyears per hour (lph?) slower on these things.

I'll be watching for what gives.

And a bigfor all the hard work you geniuses do around here.

I've been having trouble getting my page to update for a few weeks now, so this will actually be a good thing for me. I'm hopeful that this new solution will be a more permanent fix. Thanks again guys!! ATS just got better!!

Well as long as I don't lose my blog. If the info gets lost, then I guess thats what happens. At least it would be easier to post to if we go the new route.
