Oddly, many psychics were surprised by the crackdown. Yet it's not palm reading per se that police were concerned about, it's the con games, theft by deception, and fraud that often accompany fortunetelling. The police did not arrest the psychics, but warned that they would be arrested if they resumed their activities.

"Oddly, many psychics were surprised by the crackdown."

You mean they didn't see it coming?

I doubt any real psychic has a storefront shop. Miss Cleo anyone

Once, in my youth, when my boss at the time and I drove by a ratty, dilapidated psychic/palmreader's store front, I commented that maybe the psychic
could tell us how to get rich so we wouldn't have to work so hard.

My bosses sarcastic response was "great idea, their psychic abilities sure has made it so they can have a nice place to do business"

This lesson from an older man is the reason I am so cynical today.
Bless his heart. Good on ya Rick!!!

Ofcourse Whaaa.

Part of their ethos is to not use such abilities to manifest wealth.

Knowing one who has, I can assure you they had everything and anything they desired.

But darkness was rife in their life.
