Ok-This thread is gonna attempt to
TOTAL the amount of acreage burned so far in the USA alone by wildfires.
2007 season seems like it will be a BAD year for major wildfires not only in California, where almost every year there are some sporadic fires, but in
other not so frequented areas as well. Areas like Florida, Catalina Island and areas hit by drought dry conditions.
Here are my tallys so far, please add any that you know of...
Florida, May 2007, 311,697 acres
FIRE OVERVIEW
• Total active fires: 225 Acres: 163,118
• Since January 1st: 1,991 wildfires on 311,697 acres

More on the Gunflint and Ham Lake Wildfire
The fire at Ham Lake is not generating as much publicity as the others in the U.S. but it is serious. In Minneapolis winds this morning allowed us a
whiff of the fire that has now spread at least 5 miles into Canada. By Thursday night 45 structures had been destroyed and the fire had spread to
almost 47 miles, according to the Star Tribune, which says almost 500 people are fighting the fire at a cost of almost $2 million.
