Christians engaged in mass book burning

I spoke to some of the people working at Christian organizations that collect donations of used items and then resell them in their seconhand stores. I asked them if they had any new age books for sale in their book departments, and they all said that they have orders to burn or destroy every new age book that they are given as donations. They said that they destroy many tons of new age books and that such books are evil because they lead people away from Christianity.

I think this is evil and wrong and should be outlawed by the governments.

Why burn them when they can just remove them from the libraries? Seems wasteful.

I don't see burning books being a crime but I don't think it's necessary. However, if it makes these people feel better for what they've done..then so be it! I had/have some pretty 'outlandish' new agey type books. I do not want them anymore but at the same time I don't want to be responsible for giving them away to another who may end up 'reading too much into those books' as I once had.

This to me, is a personal choice and a form of rebellion. It won't change the fact that there are still probably the same books and even more indepth/outlandish books on the market or in peoples possession.

And yes, absolutely no doubt about it..these new agey type books DO lead 'some' people away from Christanity and even lead them astray from the entire concept or belief of the Almighty God, not all people now, but this is the intention in the books..so there is a greater possibility of this happening.

I'm tossed in this concept of burning books, I wouldn't do it, but to each their own. What next ay? burning people?

Gosh the more I read about christianity the more I hate what I read. This just can't be the 'good' religion, if such thing as a 'good religion' exist. They just suppress freedom of thoughts...

A book is a book. Who cares?! Again..if it makes these particular 'Christians' feel holier, then have at it. Books in the world are endless. And it all depends on 'reader' and how deeply one chooses to open their minds to what they are reading or delve into a form of 'logic' of the writer that has possible intentions of detering a mind from the belief of God. I cannot say this has not happened to me, but I don't blame the writers. I blame myself.

Maybe YOU don't care, but this just gotta stop. I never seen such a narrow-minded religion, that would prefer to suppress evidence, and probably peopel, than admit that they were wrong on some subjects. (or on the 'whole' story..)

I'm in no position to change or stop these incidents from occurring either *right now* I never stated I completely and 100% agree with the idea or reason behind book burning of any sort. But if it makes *me* feel better about myself and if it makes *me* feel I'm doing the world a favor then I'll burn whatever I want to that is mine or in my possession. I have thrown away books of mine that were given to me or payed for by me..no regrets really and it did make me feel better within myself..

Again, I am, not for or against this. Burning books is not going to change people from still purchasing the same type of books..if anything it is only adding to the intrigue.

Now please don't take your animosities out on me. I am not the topic here. If it disturbs you so much then go out and do something about it.

Maybe I was a little irritate because you seem so passive about this. Again, neither you or I can do anythign about it. So it's not your fault, and again, I wasn't accusing you.

I cannot change the fact that I am so passive though..one major change about myself at a time is all I'm capable of right now. And really, I'm not that passive and have no connection to the people or 'Christians' who are burning books.

If I was in a position. I would certainly want to speak face to face with these people and find out where their logic is.

I've thrown away religious tracts and pamphlets by
mormons,jehovahs witnesses and various christian
fundamentalist groups.

In this one respect I'm not any better.
As for the thrift shop burning new age books it's
hard to really accuse them of a crime.
After all they pretty much have the right to do with
whatever falls in their hands.

It's not the act in it-self that is shocking, but the meaning behind it.

What are they anyway? Barbarians?

Who burns stuff nowaday anyway? Why not just give them to someone else, or simply throw them away?
