Whats outside our universe?

I have always been curious about what what could be outside the universe. Its very hard for our minds to think on a scale like that. I would like to here your opinions and theories about what you think is outside our universe.

A lot of theories suggest that there are an infinite amount of other universes outside ours. I dont know what to believe.

I also believe that there is other universes outside of ours. Another theory of mine is that there could be millions of universes out there just like there are millions of galaxies in our own. I know that seems a little farfetched, but its only a theory.

I have always wondered that too. What if space is what the universe is. The moon revolves around the Earth, the Earth revolves around the sun. All the visible stars you see are other solar systems revolving around a supermassive black hole. Andromeda is on a crash course with us, so all these galaxys could be revolving around whatever is in the center of our universe. Which is revolving around something that we are not even close to understanding.

Personally I think what is outside of the Universe is the Multiverse.

I see it as the Universe being an infinitely large area within a finite (though incredibly large)
space among an infinite amount of other Universes, I have a theory about alternative Universe
creation that would tie in with it, but I feel that would be going a bit off topic.

good idea lori-komei, I feel the same way.

Think of our GALAXIES within the universe. I belive that like lori-k that our UNIVERSE is akin to our GALAXIES in that there are many universes, billions possibly.

The galaxies are far away from each other, each its on 'body', and I think the same is true with our universe. Whats in between the multiverse? same thing between the galaxies or even more sparse.

Stuff like this may sound nutty or hard to imagine, but imagine yourself living 1000 years ago in 1007 AD...What may have seemed crazy to people living back then? That the Earth is ROUND???!!!! or that Earth revolves around the Sun??!!! Or how about nanotechnology

Wow big question topsecrets, i have thought about this for some time and have heard many different theories.
I believe there is nothing beyond the constantly growing boundary of our universe, rather i believe in an infinet number of dimentions kind of all occupying the same space but on different levels of reality.

my theory is that there is absolutely nothing and nobody else outside the universe we live in - ie we are the only life in existence however far we send out our probes (or eventually travel in our spaceships).

however....

i thinkthat there are many, many other dimensions that contain other life forms and that those which are advanced enough can interact with each other's dimensions.

only when a species becomes advanced enough to think 'outside the box' will it encounter the others.

That's not possible because the universe is expanding, and the galaxies moving away from each other.

What's outside our universe?

Simple answer is "I don't know".

Speculative answer is "I bet there's others, but I'm not sure if they sit 'side-by-side' or are like those Russian dolls- a smaller one inside of a larger one inside of a larger one."

Theoretical answer is "The universe is rife with multiple dimensions through Quantum Physics".

Take your pick.

If you define Universe as:

"Universe is ALL THAT IS."

.....there is nothing outside....

that question may be like asking who created God.
I would venture the mulitverse is a truth.
The four dimensions are unfoled the other six are folded and therefore appear small to us...
would they therefore be on the outside?
again these concepts maynot be applicable to the answer, as the answer is not in english.

What is outside of our universe? some guys playing at the computer giants, maybe we are microscopic bacteria, just seems that the more you look up the rankings the more bigger the things are, we are smaller than our planet, the planet is smaller than the galaxy, galaxies are smaller than the universe, universe is smaller than?

What is outside the Universe? Nothing. Not in the sense that there is an absence of something, but just nothing.

I do not believe the physical universe is contained within something, because then that problem never ceases to be answered.. the container must be within a container and so on into infinity.. the "multiverse" answer really does not answer the question, and really just provides more questions than it answers. IMHO it is just a cheap shot by science to try and explain reality, because they know they CANT without including CONSCIOUSNESS into the equation.

Instead, i see the vacuum of "empty" space as being infinite. No boundary to it, because that implies that there is something different on the other side, of which im sure there isn't.

The answer to the question, IMHO, will remain difficult to conceptualize until you include consciousness into the equation. You need to stop thinking in terms of "matter" and "physical", and start realising that even "matter" is not solid, but really just a vibration of energy that we, consciousness, interprets.

Science has a habit of trying to imply that reality is easy to understand, yet impossible to write down in mathematics..

In other words, "don't try and figure it out, because its too complicated, and only the "experts" will succeed".

What is at the end of our universe its simple more space ,you might come across another universe similar to ours but when you get to the other side of that there will be more space . In my opinion it is never ending I just cant see how it could be otherwise .. The mind boggles when you sit down and think of the possibilities ..

The question is simply wrong logically, because if you find anything or even nothing outside what is visible it will immediately become a part of this universe.... !!

Apart from theories, no one knows where it ends, so its safe to assume that it never ends. There are some possibilities - either it goes on and on in every direction infinitely or folds up upon itself like a sphere in multiple dimensions, so that if you travel in a straight line you end up at the start point.

Now how it looks everywhere? we have some data on that and I feel its a fair approximation and looks 'natural' to me. Here is a video that shows the simulation of large scale structure of the universe (each point of light is a whole galaxy)

www.youtube.com...

Here is what it will look like if you travel through it at the speed of thought and it will look same everywhere, with no ends.

www.youtube.com...

Edit: Here's a good video that will take you to the 'edge'. The light from beyond this has not yet reached us, and you must wait a few trillion years to see whats beyond.

my fingernail is on the outside of the universe

you know what i mean?

then the rest of my body then you can keep going up and up til you see the planet then the solar system then space blah blah blah then somehow its my fingernail or anyplace on any part of anything

i guess im sayin it never ends, its just infinite, its a cycle IMO, just keeps going and going and going but in a cycle

Well, as others have said, that depends on how you define universe...Assuming you mean the four dimensions, I'm going to venture that there are many things beyond the universe. For starters, there is probably a virtually infinite number of "what-might-have-been" universes, which are unfortunately completely inaccessible and always will be.

en.wikipedia.org...

Also, I believe that the Astral Plane and perhaps other Planes of reality exist, which I do believe are accessible.

Haha, have I got a site for you!

Essentially, if you imagine our own universe as an expanding rubber ball or a balloon, then what would you have with a 'multiverse'?

Well...if we stick balloons together, what do they remind you of?

Soap bubbles!

This site talks about that analogy, and gives an opposing view on why there may not be multiverses.

Oddly Horror writer HP Lovecraft had the idea at least in fiction that a multiverse existed and it looked like soap bubbles as well, really horrifying things lived between the "bubbles". Anyone heard of Yog Sothoth?
