Zimbabwe to chair major UN body

news.bbc.co.uk

Zimbabwe has been elected to head the UN's commission on Sustainable Economic Development (CSD) despite strong objections from Western diplomats.

They had said Zimbabwe was unsuitable because of its human rights record and economic problems. It is suffering food shortages and rampant inflation.

Zimbabwe was once a prosperous food exporter, but production has plummeted since land reforms in 2000 that saw thousands of white-owned farms seized.

The UN is beyond a bad joke Sudan having anything to do with human rights was bad enough. The food shortages prove that the government of Zimbabwe doesn't know the meaning of Sustainable.

Add in the fact that Zimbabwe economy has tanked and you have a case of a country with the worst model model has been chosen to head the UN's commission on Sustainable Economic Development.

Right now I feel sick I think that I will pass on having a late lunch.

Yes, African countries taking some responsibility in the international arena must be enough to make any right minded man sick to the stomach.

Seriously, what is the problem?

Steve you should be asking what is right with this picture ?
When an country is appointed to head a commission it should serve as a model to the rest of the world no matter what the subject matter is .
In this case the only thing that is sustainable things in Zimbabwe are corruption and Mugabe regime .

So given the current conditions in Zimbabwe do you really think that that Zimbabwe is a suitable country to head the Sustainable Economic Development ?

I beleive that it was voted into this position for a reason. I beleive that it will place sufficient onus on Zimbabwe to improve or look totally inept. The spotlight is on them. Let's see what happens... as you say, they did it before. Anything is possible.
