Consummate Washington insider and New York Times columnist William Safire wrote a column making 16 predictions for the new year. The prediction in item 13 was: "October surprise," a major terror attack in the US. The buzz inside the beltway - not to mention in many other circles - is that a terror attack close to the election will shift the election in Bush's favor or lead to the election being suspended or even cancelled.

How many of you think this will happen?

Why would terrorists try to disrupt our elections? That would pretty much ensure Bush stays in office. I find that scenario to be extremely illogical. If anything, they'd want him to get the boot.

That's because the REAL terrorists are the guys in washington, staging attacks to keep themselves in power.
