Celebrities - Over the top?

Topic started on 9-5-2007 @ 06:58 PM by x08

I'm starting to get sick and tired of celebrities. Everywhere you turn... *name* arrested for DUI... *name* under suspicion of pedophilia... *name* called upon to apologise for racial slur... *name* goes to court after hitting a reporter~

But there is one celebrity, who has been all over the news lately, and really needs to learn a lesson or two. You know who I'm talking about~ The one who just gets paid for attending parties. Paris Hilton~

In yesterday's news:
NineMSN News AU

The petition calls on Schwarzenegger to issue a pardon, claiming that she has been used as a scapegoat by authorities seeking to highlight the dangers of drink-driving.

The Hilton hotel heiress "provides hope for young people all over the US and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives," the petition reads.

First of all... in WHAT way does she provide hope for young people? Yes, I hope that in my next life, I will be born to a multi-millionaire like Mr. Hilton. Beauty? Sure, she's not ugly - but she's not hot either (open to personal opinion). Mundane lives? My life is anything other than mundane - as I'm sure are most of yours.

This is clearly someone way too full of herself.

Hilton had testified during her court hearing that Mintz had wrongly advised her she was legally allowed to drive despite having a suspended license.

Clearly, she is now aware that what she did was wrong. It is without a doubt, as she has clearly testified that she was wrongly advised - and to do this, you must know the truth.

Yet in today's new, what do I read?
NineMSN News AU

Paris Hilton was back behind the wheel yesterday — just days after she was jailed for motoring offences.

"She didn't seem phased being back behind the wheel," an onlooker said.

Driving may not worry her, but death threats on her Myspace page have caused Paris to admit: "I'm very scared right now."

You're scared of death threats from a jail you have been sentenced to. You have started an appeal saying that it's not your fault, "Please don't send me to jail." Yet you re-offend?

Paris — who insists she has been treated unfairly harshly and made an example of — has already launched an appeal against her sentence.

"Paris is praying to God tat the next judge will be more sympathetic," the insider said.

"She's prepared to do community service but doesn't think it's fair that she's being sent to jail."

Unfairly? You're quite happy to be made an example of when you're getting paid $10,000 to go to a party - yet this must be very unfair... you're not getting paid for it. I really hope that the next judge is NOT any more sympathetic.

Friends also insist she has learnt her lesson.

Clearly not.

What do you guys think? It's clearly a rich, power thing just like the government. Celebrities these days seem to think that they are above the law and can get away with anything. Don't get me wrong though - there ARE good celebrities too, but sometimes enough is enough.

They're quite happy to rake in our dollars for looking pretty. They're quite happy to sell us over-priced merchandise. But they want us to burn in the fires down-below for daring to download an mp3 off the internet - because they lose money... yet they put other people's lives in danger, and expect to get away with a slap on the wrist.

I say it's time we bring them down a notch.

PS. A big thanks to the GOOD celebrities, who donate a lot of their time and money to actual things that affect us in our daily lives and help us. Sorry that you guys have to be dragged into this - but it's always the bad ones that drag the good ones down.

I've always thought the whole celebrity thing in todays society is one of the stupidest things about us right now.

Fame power and money for saying things in front of a camera, singing or dancing.
So WHAT?!?!

Do they really deserve millions of $$$, and respect from people for that?
What have they done that's meaningful?
It's just ridiculous.

Fame should be earned for doing something worthwhile, that changes the way we see and do things.
Money should be earned according to how hard your job is, how good you are, and how long it takes to learn that profession.
Power should be earned by proving you can handle it and use it responsibly.

Unfortunately in this world, all three can be gained by repeating some lines on a movie screen that someone else has written for you.

While I will agree with you T0by... acting is not as easy as you make it sound~ multiple shots to make the director happy... far out places... getting covered in muck, slime and other disgusting things - all the while having to keep your composure.

Yes, they get paid too much. Yes, it makes a lot of them really stuck-up. But it really bothers me to see how many of them think that they're above the law just because they're famous~

T0by, the music you listen to is not meaningful to you? The movies you watch don't affect you in some way? You cannot relate to either of those when you watch a movie, or listen to your favorite song?

I'm not defending thier actions in any way, but I will say this: They worked hard to get where they are (good or bad, like them or hate them, it doesn't matter) and they deserve whatever money is given to them. I'm a musician, and my band is STRUGGLING to get to the point that bands like Nickelback and AC/DC. In a sense, if you look at it this way, some of those celebrities help keep dreams like mine alive. They give me a reason to aspire to be the best that I can be with the music that I play.

Onward to Paris now...

I think she's getting off very light on this, and she needs to spend that time in jail. She probably won't though, and will not learn her lesson. She'll be out drinking and driving the same night.

Well I don't think her sentence will change she has to go June 5th. I checked her freeparis.org site and it has a little over 5,000 signatures. And that target is a million. She should just swallow her pride and say I made a mistake and I'm going to get this behind me like a responsible adult should. Is she even over 21? Laws still apply like it or not people. The drinking age is 21 and far as I know that still applies to all states and all people.

Perhaps they should put a salary cap on all sports and celeberties earnings. People are just getting too rich and people like us are getting poorer.

I'm as dirt poor as the next person. I don't nessecarily live paycheck to paycheck, but it does get a bit tight sometimes. I do agree that some of the salaries actors, atheletes, musicians, and the like make are a little over the top, but for the most part, I think they have worked hard enough to earn that type of payment.

As far as Paris being a responsible adult? The day she does that is the day my band gets a record deal!

Vlad,

PAris Hilton needs to go to a prison where he word fist is also a verb.

"Oh my god! I can't go to prison! I'm a souce of hope for all the mudane lives of anybody who isn't me!" People should lynch her just for saying that she is somehow above and better than the people. Maybe someone in prison will smack her lazy eye staight...one can only hope. She should capitolize on this whole I need attention thing, and when she goes to jail should film another sex video this time with her cell mate. I hope her cell mate was just recently interviewed by CNN saying that her favorite thing to do is molest farm animals or something. Paris needs to know that she lives in a spoiled little princess fairytale world and that everybody thinks shes a stupid worthless twit, and a stain on the american people.

PS Vlad, U2U me about your band. You like Nickleback you say? It might know a little about that topic. Also, keep on keeping on with the music. Labels are beginning to look around again and not take what ever crap their buddies convinve them to sign. Hope is slowely returning to the industry...it will take a while but it's returning. PS a lot of diplodunk retard A&R are being fired in droves recently. Younger guys getting the jobs instead. SO you never know.

Leyla, fellow Ktowner eh? We've got a show at The Prince's Deli on June 8th, if ya wanna come and see! I'll even buy some beers.

BASSPLYR, I just U2U'd you with some band information, so check it out when ya get some time.

Fear not guys, my band is paying our dues, and I know that when the right time comes, we'll get to where we need to be. It's all about sticking to it, and not giving up, no matter what happens. There have been plenty of nights of not making a dime, but by god, I had fun up on that stage! We'll make it, and then when I do, you can say you knew me when!

Oh, and BASSPLYR, I love you comment man! I was looking for the right way to word those exact thoughts about the fist, LMAO, but I just could not come up with something that wouldn't get me in trouble!

PS the guys who signed paris hilton are fully embarassed about any of their envolvement on the record. Which went massively over budget, has more secret put into the production than I think even Paris will ever find out about, and it sold squat.

I'd name the names of these idiots but that wouldn't be fair to them, since they can't defend their stupidity.

paris you suck, and probably not well either.....friggen teeth!!!!

You know, I never knew she had a single out, let alone an album, until I saw it in passing on E! once. I think I was laughing then, and I'm still laughing now!

I hope I never have kids like that!

Everybody snubbed her too when it came time for her little party. It was probably one of the least succesful albums released when compared to money spent developing it and revenue made selling it.

Burn Paris to the ground I say!

I'd like her to jump off a bridge and end our misery of her once and for all, but alas she is too skinny and will probably flutter down like a sheet of paper to the ground and not break her neck. damn physics!!!!!

hahah paris' album !

anyway yeah i don't get the crazy hype over celebs..i mean sure i like my share fair of celebs.. i really think drew berrymore is pretty awesome. and i like how george clooney tries to help out and stuff. and oh oh i LOVE VINCENT D'ONOFRIO AND BENICIO DEL TORO.. i really respect their skill and i like how they aren't trying to be up on the whole hollywood scene and junk. shia lebeouf is pretty awesome too

but sadly it's these celebs actions not skills that are getting them noticed lately although i paris lacks any skill in my opinion. she even seems boring in bed from what i saw on the infamous sex tape.

anyway its the way it is right now and i think its reached a height and its going to crash and burn.

yeah one could tell that paris was a real blast in bed from her little video. If i was the guy I would be seriously offended for her lack of enthusiasm. Why can't she just get into it because she wants to get off too? nope she's just going through the motions....boring.

What pissed me off about paris the most is her and her boyfriend at the time Starving Natchos or whatever his name was crashed their aston martin into a u-hual truck sped away. was caught on paparazzi tape with the following conversation:

Paris: OMG you're scaring me!

Starving Natchos: "I'm scaring myself!" waht a looser.

then while getting pulled over the backseat passanger addmints that shes the only one NOT drunk and still the cops let her off. what a load of crap. I'm glad this judge is throwing the book at her this time. Glad she going to do jail time...she deserves it.

no she couldn't...she makes women look bad.

and I think more women should be vehemently opposed to paris ruining the good name of women. I would get pissed if a dingbat walked around as the model for male society...oh wait...George "w"....never mind. us guys have someone much worse than paris hilton.
