Bird flu legislation in the UK

A while ago when bird flu first came out I did some searching and found a couple of interesting pieces of information:

“Under the Civil Contingencies Act, introduced in 2004 by Tony Blair, the Government has the right to adopt powers at its disposal to bring in the Army to take control of essential industries, including fuel depots”

This means the government in a case of bird flu; terrorism etc can legally seize control of the nation’s infrastructure away from private business.

Seems taken out of context and I geuss your implying that this is a bad thing?

It is a good idea, and has been done in the past. When the peopel who do these jobs for a living get sick/don't turn up for work somebody needs to stand in. Who else is available to do these jobs apart from the army?

It was done not too many years ago - think firemans strike - and has been done a few other times in recent history aswell.
