White House: U.S. Should Brace for More Casualties in Iraq

After another bloody weekend for U.S. troops in Iraq, the White House said on Monday Americans should brace for more U.S. casualties in the push for greater security in Baghdad.

Eight U.S. soldiers were killed on Sunday in roadside bomb attacks and were among 12 whose deaths were announced, following an April in which more than 100 died.

It looks like the situation in Iraq is getting out of control very fast. Not only that the casualties of Iraqi civilians population is on the rise - but also the number of U.S. casualties. And as it looks that is only the start. Peace in Iraq now looks like it is so far, that is almost out of reach. So far in April 2007, 104 U.S. troops were killed, only the fourth time since the beginning of 2005 that U.S. deaths have exceeded 100 in a single month. At least 25 troops have been killed so far in May - which can only bring not so optimistic projections for the upcoming hot summer months in Iraq.
