BBC:

A blast has destroyed a section of one of the main gas pipelines in Ukraine exporting Russian gas to Europe, Ukraine's emergencies ministry says.

It says about 30m (90ft) of the Urenhoi-Pomary-Uzhhorod pipeline were damaged by the explosion.

There were no injuries in the blast that happened at 1420 local time (1120 GMT) in the Kiev region.

A ministry spokesman said he was unable either to confirm or deny reports that gas supplies were suspended to the EU.

Spokesman Ihor Kroll told the BBC that a bypass system was activated, declining to give any further details on the effect of the incident on gas deliveries westwards.

What does a gallon of gas cost in EU anyways?
Is the U.S paying the highest gas prices worldwide right now?
The U.S dosent even need an explosions to raise gas prices, they just keep going up.

No idea how much natural gas (methane) costs. Always been all electric where I've lived.

That said, some crude sums for petrol/gasoline -

Sold in the UK as litres -

3.78 litres to the gallon @ roughly 90p per litre = £3.40, converted to dollars = $6.72 a gallon.

Last year the Russians turn off the gas taps to supply Ukraine and now a very convenient explosion...seems like a ploy to extract as much profit for as little supply as possible

Indeed. It seems Russia is finally getting back on its feet after a long time off the world stage.

With Putin at the helm and all the stories we keep hearing about him, his government and Russian society, it should be something we keep a close eye on.

That said, I think the rise of China and resurgence of Russia is a good thing as it will hopefully reduce some of the strength the US has had as the only superpower since the fall of the USSR.
