I think this is the result of the riots, Iran and the cartoon fiasco from. It was the largest voter turnout in 40 years which shows me that France unlike Italy and Spain does not plan to make to make nice in the clash of civilizations or live in fear.

As to the French presidential elect, I have to say I'm disappointed,
I've always seen France as representing alot (not all) but alot of
positive socio-political ideas.

The election of this individual, well I think in the long run he'll hurt
France more than anything.

The breaking political news section is part of the general boards though,
alt news is the true news section.


I could be wrong, but I'm going by what I know.

I don't get what and especialy WHY its important that the french president is Pro-US and why its important for him to say that expresivly even during his speech.

A president is supposed to serve the people of his country, not pledge his service and allegiance to a foreign nation before hes even in office.

Well Sarkozy is a pro-Bush/Blair/European Union/NWO guy. We already knew it. Now this seems like Bush have a new ally to attack Iran or any other country in the area... Lebanon or Syria. After all the french army is quite good... but their implications in new wars in the Middle-east will only make it worse... mainly because of France colonial past... This is not a good day for France and the world.

Political news posts the story in Above Politics while General posts it in BTS. It had me confused at first also. I may have missed something but I think the intent is to keep alternate news conspiracy related and frankly I am still not all that sure since many are posting all news under alternative, my guess would be because that is where most go and look first

I posted in the alt news section since I like to hear the conspiracy related views that would be posted in response to the story. The regular news seems to be missing some of that.

He has already labeled the leaders of Iran as dangerous. Thats a huge leap from where France was at before.

A MAJOR change! The next few months and years will be very interesting for France. They are at a major cross roads. I hope it turns out good for them and things improve in that country. From the outside looking in .. it looks like their near future will be rocky at best. This new fella could do some real good.

I don't think it's so much that he's supposedly pro-American it's more that he's clearly not anti-American. He's not going to be anyone's lapdog, but he certainly seems like someone with whom we can work with and understand and who will understand us.

Like Chuck Schumer said (I can't believe I actually agree with him on something) "It would be nice to have someone who is head of France who doesn't almost have a knee-jerk reaction against the United States."

It's going to take a lot to improve how we feel about the Fries of Europe. Some of my own ancestors came from that area, and I even renounced them.

He will be a welcome change from Chirac, who was definitely anti-US. And France will hopefully benefit from a departure from the socialistic policies that have driven their economy into the ground, and caused massive unemployment.

I'm not entirely sure (as yet) how much of this is soundbite, and how much is real.

Remember that French socialist ideals extend back to the french revolution, and to a lesser extent, Napolean - although he espoused the ideals as good, there remains debate as to whether he was doing this from political motives.

I am doubtful that a belief so firmly entrenched in a nations psyche can be overcome very easily, and the french have a very long history of socialism, which is great in theory, but has never worked in practice.

Perhaps the new top dog is saying things in order to garner trust in the international arena before establishing his "pogroms".

He certainly seems very right wing, and don't forget that this is a nation who nearly elected Le Pen - an out and out fascist.

Still, only time will tell.

It's way too early yet to accurately foretell how French and US relations will improve, or not, as the case may be. I'm hopeful that they'll improve, but history shows that France goes its own way...if that happens to be our way great, if not, what's new?
