Well it is starting to look as if Cinco de Mayo will be becomming the holiday of choice that will replace July 4th in the US.

Cinco de Mayo marks mexican independance from european colonial powers.

I can see May 5th becomming a bank and a national holiday for the new North American Union.

I think this pretty much sums it up.

Everyone loves America except Americans.

We lose by default and apathy.

Well what do you expect....little is being done against the employers that hire coyotes to get these illegals through and the security at our borders is a complete joke. Not to mention that the minutemen are recieving extreme opposition from American citizens themselves despite that they have repeatedly stated that they are not affiliated with supremacist groups of any kind. Illegal mexicans reproduce about 5x what the educated population in the U.S. does. It's only time before they bring this nation down to 3rd world status.

non-indigenous," white, English-speaking U.S. citizens of European descent who have to leave what they call "our continent.

So just the 'white, English speaking' Americans have to go? What about Asians, Blacks etc?
Also it's hardly 'their' continent. Hell most of 'em are descended from 'white' Spaniards and native Central Americans.
Why don't Europeans start a counter-protest:All Mexicans must leave Europe!

Also what's to say that, if they do get the U.S, they won't screw it up?
Just look at Mexico.

Not that I support them, but to be at least partially descended from Native's does put them in a better position that not being descended at all....

Would love to help you, but I don't think we have a major Mexican population.

You can have all the Spanish if you like. Us Brits are busy colonising Spain anyway, so it would make our lives easier

This is not going to happen.

Mainstream Americans are really getting pissed off about this and will simply not allow this to go forward. Eventually no one will be able to hide behind diplomatic language to promote such seditious activity. These people will be deported.

And this from someone who supports the Isreali occupation of the east bank of America.

What a joke, Americans are too stupid and lazy to care about much of anything really.

Actually, while Mexico and the US are both in North America, the Americas are regarded as two continents:

North America and South America are now treated as separate continents in much of Western Europe, China, and most native English-speaking countries, such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Furthermore, the concept of two American continents is prevalent in much of Asia. However in earlier times they were viewed as a single continent known as America or, to avoid ambiguity with the United States of America, as the Americas. However, the plurality of this last term suggests that even in these "earlier times" some considered the New World (the Americas) as two separate continents. North and South America are viewed as a single continent, one of six in total, in Iberia, Italy, Israel, some other parts of Europe, and much of Latin America.

Mainstream Americans can get pissed all they want (yes I am one of them) but with the changing of the laws in this country, we have less control than ever before. Also, getting these people into our country is their agenda. An uproar from the American people is exactly what they want. Madness and mahem is what will allow the police state to expand and get the protestors locked up for "whatever reason" the government wants to use. We have much less power than you think and we're losing more of it every day.

What are people going to do about it anyway? Most of them are too busy working massive amounts of hours trying to support their families while the cost of living increases and the pay level decreases, and then they ingest all of the chemicals in the water and the food supply plus all of the antidepressants that are being pushed on them to keep them stupid and obedient.

Where do you suggest we start?

Cinco de Mayo ("The Fifth of May" in Spanish) is primarily a regional, and not a federal, holiday in Mexico; the date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. It commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
However, the Mexican victory at Puebla only delayed the French invasion of Mexico City, and a year later, the French occupied Mexico. The French occupying forces placed Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico on the throne of Mexico; Maximillian and the French were eventually defeated and expelled in 1867, five years after the Battle of Puebla.
A common misconception in the United States is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day; Mexico's Independence Day is September 16 (dieciséis de septiembre in Spanish).

This is a stupid thread and nothing more than hate/fear mongering.

If we use the same logic that you do (personal opinion, no legislation to back this up), St. Patrick's Day is going to take over the Presidents' day. We could also say that Valentine's Day is going to be a major holiday that promotes same-sex marriages... or any other combination of speculation we like.

As was said, Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday and cultural holiday. We have St. Patrick's day, Chinese New year, and a host of others.

When we see bills and sponsorships to promote this idea, then you have something real. Otherwise it's opinion.

Oh...and Cinco de Mayo is a fiesta. It's a much different concept than Independance Day.

Uh, no...While North and South America are one land-mass, just like Europe/Africa/Asia, North America and South America are considered two continents, not one.

Get a Geography textbook and check it out.

A common misconception being broadcast through the Hispanic community (one I recently heard in a speech played on the radio) is that continued French defeats in Mexico prevented the re-supply of the Confederates which brought the end to the US civil war. The speaker then credited Mexico’s “glorious” battles with the salvation of the United States Union.

When, historically, it was the surrender of the Confederates that allowed the Union to supply Juarez and placed the French on the full defensive while Sheridan sat on the border to the North threatening. Not to mention, the French lost most of their troops to disease.
