www.usatoday.com

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asked Syria to help improve security in Iraq on Thursday during the highest-level talks in three years with a government Washington accuses of sponsoring terrorism.
Rice described her 30-minute talk with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem as "businesslike" and said she encouraged Syria to stop allowing foreign terrorists to cross its border into Iraq.

"There was an opportunity to talk about the problem of foreign fighters — a major source of the suicide bombings (in Iraq)," Rice said. "The Syrians clearly say that stability in Iraq is in their interest, but actions will speak louder than words."

Interesting development, on the heals of Nancy Pelosi's unofficial official recent visit to Syria.

However Nancy Pelosi's visit was met with sharp criticism from the Bush administration.

It seems the opposing political parties are working hard to meet on critical issues, if they could just find a way to get the timing together.
