Pointless.

Considering the point of this thread is the survival of the human race, it
does fit in, as an asteroid that large would be a global killer, destroying
nearly all life on Earth.

And it is possible that an asteroid that size could strike, though we would
most likely know about it long before it did.

But in the off chance that it was a dark asteroid, we would'nt know it until
it was close enough that we'd have very few if any options.

It fits in because it destroys all life on this planet?

What is most important?
Our drinking water - Our nature, bees and the flapping birds in the skies - Or an astroid that kills everything?

What is possible most important to discuss?

It is still pointless. sorry.
You see what I mean?

It fits in because it has to do with the survival of the human race, whom are part of the life on Earth.

The thread is about the survival of humanity, and is therefore not about a
certain aspect of survival, so bee's dying, pollution, global climate change,
solar fluctuation, space colonization and asteroids all fit in.

We are allowed to discuss this because (most of us) live in a free country and can post on public forums without worrying about repercussions.

The asteroid killing all life is relevant because maybe not all of it is destroyed. Maybe bacteria go on and evolve up to humans again. Maybe not.

Water, bees, trees, and asteroids are all equally relevant to this topic.

Take one out, put another in, disaster.

Now, what can we do to prevent an oncoming disaster?

Divided we fall, united we stand. Its whatever outcome we CHOOSE.

okay yes - I though about importance. What is most important

Maybe im to fanatic - and think We could do a change - Thats my perspective.

If this thread is just to write words - then okay I give up.

What about the sun blowing up or the moon flying away from the Earth orbit..?
That also fits in. you see..

Technically it does, but the chances of that happening soon are
astronomically small, though both actually will happen.

Asteroids have hit the Earth multiple times throughout its history, they are
what killed off the Dinosaurs.

In fact the Tunguska event was caused by an asteroid exploding above
the damage, if you look at the damage that caused, imagine the effect if
it had actually impacted the planet, rather then just detonating in the atmosphere.

Technically we our about at the time that a large asteroid strikes, as it
seems to happen in cycles of hundreds of thousands of years.

Cycles of hundreds of thousands of years.??!! Wth?
hell - didn't know that part..sorry.
So it's relevant to talk about underground cities perhaps?
I didn't know that ..plz continue.. my bad.

i see.

No matter how it happens, "they", the bilderbergers or what not will have a plan for them to survive and repopulate. Just think about it, wouldn't it be the ultimate way for a ideology to be spread? Just kill everyone who doesn't believe in your ideology, (Nukes, Viruses, etc.), and start over by RAISING this ideology/religion into their lives.

There are endless possible ways the human race could end up extinct, many of our own doing. Personally I find bio-weapons and gradual environmental toxicity to be the most ominous presently, but there's really only one sure way to protect the species in the face of potential disaster, and that's self sufficient off-world colonies.

As Stephen Hawking said, space colonization should be really be one of our highest priorities at the moment. It's not unthinkable that a self-sufficient colony could have already existed in our solar system at least, if the pace of the "space race" had been kept up. It's certainly not an unrealistic goal, it's just that as a species we place a higher priority on dominating every aspect of this lovely little planet rather than exploring the vastness of space.

There are many discouraging opinions about space colonization, people see it as a sci-fi "pie in the sky" idea, but that seems to me kind of like the many people who told ancient sailors not to bother really exploring the seas because they'd just get eaten by dragons or fall off the world. Just because our present understanding of physics makes faster than light travel problematic doesn't mean we won't eventually refine our model of physics and discover a way to move between stars.

We still need to take a lot of baby steps, but in a world where the feds can find 400 billion dollars in a pinch to fight a war based on false pretexts , yet the yearly budget for NASA is 16 billion it's pretty clear where "our" priorities are.

Ask yourself, what am I doing to make the world better? What am I doing to bring change to this place? What am I doing in my own personal life to bring harmony and truth to the ones in the dark? If you arent doing nothing to better your personal world, then DO NOT BE SURPRISED IF NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN YOUR PERSONAL WORLD.

Hi Lightworker, I like what you wrote, beautifully said. You should hijack the next G8 summit and give these elitests a piece of your own mind. You might actually get through to them.
Somebody has too.

As to the original question, I don't think we will go extinct any time soon, we've already proved ourselves to be damn good at surviving. The people that were about 74,000 years ago had no technology like we do now and yet they survived Toba, so I think we can survive most thing nature can throw at us these days. If we worked on it, we could probably survive something like the KT mass extinction event. I think the main problem is that we are the only species which kills it's own kind on a large scale as to try and destroy whole areas.

No, I don't believe us humans will be extinct soon, but I think some of our religions and ideas will be in due time.
