I came home tonight after work, my kids both came running to the door my oldest daughter (3) said "hi daddy wanna play toys" and my younger daughter (15 mths) was hooting and in a general excited state.

Thats all the optimisum I need, I cant make other people "good" or well behaved, But I can do everthing in my power to ensure I raise these two right, so that noone has to read about them in 20 years.

If you have kids go give them a hug, and play with them for awhile, parents are the only thing that determines what kind of people are put into society.

And when your out and about, hold open a door for someone, say hi, smile, let someone merge in traffic, and in general just be nice to others. The old saying "treat others how you would like to be treated" holds alot of water.

I hear ya SoT, and sometimes I feel the same way.

But there will always be hope as long and there and any of us left to have that hope.

The "news" has been a way of degrading us for a long time. Its good to keep up to date, but thats all the news is good for. Life is what you make of it, and things won't get better until we change as individuals, then as a collective.

That is why good information is important, not biased fear inspiring dribble that is mainstream news..

The meaning of life is survival through information. Sharing the information is paramount.

As Obi-wan Kenobi once said the truth greatly depends on your point of view as does optimism. Do you have children? Are they healthy? They are the true hope of humanity's continued existence. We're only bound to this mortal coil for a very short time: change what you can to make the world a better place. Turn off the TV, it's the tool of the elites to enslave us. Remember without the dark , there can be no light.

it is getting harder to find the good things between all the bad things about humanity.

Sorry for the one-liner...

If you want some joy, turn off the television and go outside and enjoy the nature.

News is not here to give you a positive outlook on the planet, it's here to give you fear in order to control ideology.

Better make your own news be your every day life.

The world is definately screwed up. I think it's always been this way it's just now that We have access to the info literally at Our fingertips. Injustice makes Me sick. We're so wrong it's pathetic. There are days when I hear things and can't help but to bawl because My heart hurts. We had the Amish school shooting here not too long ago, soldiers dieing, children starving. It's hard for Me to understand how a strangers death can affect Me so profoundly and others don't blink an eye.
My optimism is My children. See, sometimes I feel as though I've missed My calling or realized it too late. I feel the need to serve humanity but My path has led Me to wife and mother. One day I realized that My opportunity to serve those in need don't have to come directly from Me, but inadvertantly through My children. By teaching My children empathy, respect, and acceptance for others I can help that many more in need than if I had done it alone. I have not missed My calling at all, I've just doubled the effort. They are My optimism.

Peace. K*

Don't be absurd! Humans such as you are ingrates who have no idea how good you have it. Were you alive in WWII? Were you alive in the black death? I didn't think so...

Humans are tougher than rats or cockroaches. If we can survive the black death, we can survive anything.

Don't look for the strength of humanity in the news for goodness sakes!

Havn't you ever heard, "No news is good news"?
That can be taken a couple different ways, but in this day and age of headline news and commercialism I take it literally.

If you want proof that humantiy will indeed "make it". Just look deep into your heart and mind. Think about your average everyday joe that teaches a kid who's been told all his life that he can't become something, the doctor that saved the life of a patient, the non-profit group that sends food to starving nations, the peace corp. volunteer that travels to third world countries, the enviromentalist that reduces air pollution so that the next generation acan enjoy the outdoors, the soldier that jumps on a grenade to save his buddy next to him.

It's in all of us. It's what warms your heart and makes you feel good. It's our feelings and our emotions. Things that have been a blessing and a curse since the dawn of mankind. Personally, I feel that man truely is truthful, honest and moral in nature. It's when we put a value on things that emotions and feelings corrupt. The more we learn to be selfless and welcoming to all others the sooner we'll be able to get on with the advancement of humanity.

i must say this is the worst advice ive heard in a long time. no offense

the things that will effect your future are the very things you should focus on. its the basic law of survival, to ignore is to forfeit. the silver lining in life is no matter how depressing life gets- that depression can not kill you. biologically you are immune to hopelessness, spiritually thats a different story.

im not trying to disrupt anyones life here, but religion is the root of your problem. it demands your optimism, and your mind cant sustain that request.

It is politics.

Do politicians give you any hope?
Well - There you have it.

They play God.
They agreed to send out all this crap to us.

They are not thinkers of philosophy-
They make money.

They don't care.

All aboard. The world is going to hell and I'm driving the bus.

Sorry I couldn't resist.
I guess everyone feels depressed and without hope and optimism at some point in their lives but if you spend all your time watching the news and reading newspapers, buying into organised religion and listening to deceptive, selfish, negative people like Bush & Blair and other corrupt politicians. Then is it any wonder your depressed and no longer have any hope for the future.
These people and institutions only have one goal and that is to bring everyone down to their level and make you feel powerless and fearful. Whether you take the bait or not, well that's upto you.

It's not all doom and gloom. If you stop buying into all the fear, lies and propaganda and look at the world through your own eyes. You will see a truly beautiful world with limitless potential, filled with many different cultures with lots of good, decent caring people, who all share the same positive goals. To live in peace and harmony with their fellow neighbours and to evolve & grow together both spiritually and physically. The only limitations and boundaries we have in life are the ones we impose upon ourselves and each other, in reality there are none. Empower yourselves, go fourth and prosper!

Look to this day
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today well lived
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow and vision of hope

10 reasons to be optimistic about the future

Despite the fact that the more I learn, the more reason I see for concern, even alarm, and the more I'm convinced that radical action is needed soon to save us from catastrophe, I remain a hopeless idealist and optimist. There is much to be done, and urgently, but we can do it. Some reasons to be optimistic:

There are more people writing, articulately and eloquently and with the weight of excellent information and argument behind them, about the need for radical change to our culture than ever before. This is a groundswell of awareness and deep caring, possibly unprecedented in the history of man. Something important is happening here.

The Internet has given us two powerful weapons for change: knowledge exchange and organizing capacity. We're learning to use them well.
Women are slowly gaining power and influence in our society. Young women are better educated and better informed than any generation in our history.
Not having children is no longer, for the first time in our culture, considered selfish or anti-social.

The Wisdom of Crowds.

In the next decade much of the baby boom generation will be retiring. That means a huge number of people, a generation with a penchant for change, will suddenly have an enormous amount of time to think, to learn, to do things for reasons other than financial gain.

Stories have immense power to change minds. We are learning the process of crafting astonishing stories.
The Power of Community.
In our search for models and leaders and inspirations, we are becoming skeptical of arrogance and glibness and the cult of personality, and looking instead for humility, honesty, flexibility, collaboration.

A World of Ends. There is a large and growing appreciation that small and decentralized just works better. And is smarter and more agile.

So there is great reason to be hopeful. But not complacent.

Speaker, my brother in Christ,

You know, I feel you on this one. I am greatly disturbed at humanity in general, and its capacity for evil, and its capacity for perpetual self destruction. The senseless killing, the perverted, evil raping and killing, and the murderous rampages. The wars, the rumors of wars, the atrocities commited there-in.

We are entering an age that has been prophecized about for millenia and I firmly believe this with my gut instinct, I just feel it. The words of the Apocalypse of John, although interpreted as "end of the world" in the past centuries, ring in my ears like they were made for these very days. Some have passed, but most have yet to pass, its really just begin to enter that critical "end phase".

I would suggest to hold fast to your faith in God because it's the only thing that will save you from your brothers, people. When the great afflictions start occuring.. like disease pandemics, meteor impact, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis on a greater scale, things will eventually become worse, and worse. The political climate will likewise worsen, and I think humans are on a one way ticket to Armageddon. Even if it wasn't a real prophecy, which i think it is, even if it was mumbo-jumbo, mankind seems intent on fulfilling those words with actions, its striking to note throughout recent history.

The Messenger from the Bottomless Pit & The False Prophet's followers will kill the non-believers in these days, as it was prophecized. Read Revelation and you will get to this part. They will strike out and kill all those that dont believe, its really cryptic and indicative of the Islamic Extremism going on today. I think it's all churning right along.. to the ultimate end goal of the collective religous subconcious global psyche; holy war and armageddon.

The only age we are in is the one where too many people are disempowering themselves by buying into all the fear and negative propaganda bull****. Geez why dont you just throw the towel in and give up, lol

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become. Buddha

Speakeroftruth, I just wanted to check back in with you and see what a difference a day makes. You are strong and this was a much needed topic. The direction it has moved just stands to show you that you are not alone. This is a point in your life where you will find the strenght coming from within and not from outside yourself. Who was it that said "What does not kill you makes you stronger"?Hope you have good things happen to remind you this weekend.

Dunno if you are joking, but I have to say that there could not possibly be a n y t h i n g lamer that waiting for some "redeemer" to fix everything. Get off your lazy ass and fix it yourself! We are in control of this world, of our own lives and everything that happens. If we do not realize this, we are doomed. We can't just sit here and see the oceans rise and the world come to a painful end thinking "well, there must be some higher purpose to this. I bet God wants this to happen". The purpose, let me tell you, is that we gotta fix this mess ourselves, because we caused it.

Waiting for salvation, what a waste of time. People who accually keeps doing this in the year 2007 are killing all of us. Get a grip you people!

there is a lot of good posts and opions on here, which is always good to see

i cant truely see the planet putting up with this anymore to be honest, lets take a second to think of all the things that are making our future look bleek!

1. we have a serious situation on the global warming front, i mean its getting to the point now where an earthquake, tornado's and all sorts of other natural disasters are on the news for a split second where as ten years ago an earth quake would have made he headlines for days.

2. TECHNOLOGY! heres an intersting one
i mean there is alot to say on this so i will make it brief but at the current rate of the way technology is heading i'm pretty sure its safe to say that it could be an advantage or disadvantage.

advantages, we have moved on as a civalization and new theories on how the universe works and new scientific break throughs are giving us all sorts of advantages. we have new medical breakthroughs, scientifc breakthroughs which is giving us all a better understanding on how things work.

disadvantages, technology is increasing at such a pace its getting to the point you by something like a camera and within a few months its an old model, this could be bad cause if that sort of technology is what we see then what are the goverment and other organisations hiding/holding back on?

3. WAR, theres a lot of opinion's on this! i have a feeling that world war 3 may have already began, you see all this war has been going on for a while now, and it only seems to be heading down a more serious route. where is it heading? whats the real truth behind the war? oil, religion or maybe other reasons? could it get to the point of nuclear war, and all the death and global attacks are just the ice breaker to something huge?

anyway all of these are serious issues that need to be thought about alot, and the biggest thing that makes me more annoyed than anything is that we are the ones to blame for all of these problems and we do have the ability to stop these problems from getting out of control, or beyond control completely.
