So I was thinking about the media climate of 2007 that we live with and the question came up. This is a hypothetical question if the following event
were to be occurring today-right now-and without our knowledge. So:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the Watergate scandal happened today would it even be discovered & reported?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watergate case was revealed through the dogged investigation and reporting of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post.
The reporters were aided by an informant named "Deep Throat"
This scandal was the most important modern day government conspiracy known to date and so far is still an important historical event that took
place.
It is also in my view evidence of course of governement cover-up, corruption and crimes perpetrated by the US Government and would have gone unnoticed
were it not for the informant and the Washington post reporters.
Did the current politicians and others learn from this mistake and tweak their methods? What safeguards if any do we have today, and are they
working, that are a result from the Watergate scandal?
