What are these bars??

Ok, so what are those little bars below the point counts? I've been looking at FAQs trying to figure out what they are, but no luck yet. Figured I better go make a n00by post here in the questions thread *hangs head*.

And why is my bar only 3 pixels wide???

Oh, and did the mods run out of "applauds" to give out? I havent gotten one in a WHILE!!

Actually I hadn't got one in a while until recently. If you want an applause, I find it useful to avoid making what you feel are fantastic posts in the religion forums, I've never had an applause from those forums.

Yeah, I got the majority of those applauses within my first couple weeks on ATS. Didn't know 9 was a big number!!

And still, those bars mock us...

EDIT: Yeah, there are certain forums that don't seem to applaud, no matter how much work you do. The best luck I've had has been in the Space Exploration and related threads. Masqua rocks...

These are difficult times, especially for Applause Whores like myself. Trying to buy the friendship of Mods with beer and small sexual favors just doesn't work anymore. It's these damn new Mods with their stupid ethics and honesty.

The bar's length represents the number of posts you have made. If you see someone with 2 bars, it means they went over 10,000 posts. The color of the first bar is significant. The second color bar is blue.

My Color Theory
The color of the bar is a factor of the ratio of applauses-to-posts you have AND the number of posts (with the ratio being the more dominant contributer). They start out a dark green and move toward yellow, then red, as your ratio AND/OR post count gets higher.

You have 9 applauses out of 318 posts. A ratio of 28% (high). So even though you have a high ratio, your post count is relatively low, so your bar is still green.

I have 195 applauses out of 7899 posts. A ratio of nearly 25%. A pretty high ratio AND a fairly high post count makes my bar yellow.

Moderator Majic has 110 applauses out of 11,796 posts. A ratio of 9%. A low ratio, but a very high post count makes his bar fairly yellow.

Moderator "The Vagabond" has 183 applauses out of 5135 posts. A ratio of nearly 36%. A very high ratio and fairly high post count gives him a pink-ish bar.

This is just a theory... So...

Divide the numbers by ten, BH seems to have done (applauses/posts)x1000.

I can't believe I screwed up so badly!! Even though the numbers are wrong, the theory still stands. I'm so embarrassed. My numbers were only off by a factor of 10.

So another wards I should stop posting so much. Cause my applauses isn’t equaling up with my number of post. Am I correct with this?

Well, Shar, if you don't post, you won't get applauses!

I think if every post I made was applause-worthy and I posted nothing "trivial" like these posts here... that would bring my ratio higher (assuming I get applauses for these applause-worthy posts) and then my bar would go from green to yellow to red. That's my theory. And I'm stickin' to it!

Either that or post like a mad man and don't worry about applauses and by the time you got 20,000 posts, you might see a color change.

As far as applause/color goes I think that may have changed. Remember when it went from gray to yellow to red to the bar collapsing? I don't think it's the same anymore.

As to applause, it's the quality of post that will get it.

I have stumbled on to the biggest mystery on ATS. Those damn bars! Looks like I have inadvertently created the official "WTF Bars" thread! lol

What I dont understand is why it has to be such a secret! Skeptic could solve this for us in a single post, but he hasn't! I don't get it. Skeptic is da man for sure; I just don't understand why he wont tell us!

Can you imagine how much fun it would be to KNOW the formula (or maybe there isn't even one - it's totally random!) and sit back and read how all of us are fumbling around to guess it or figure it out??? Ha! I'd keep it a secret, too!
