Here are two songs that I think are pretty sad.

"How Could An Angel Break My Heart?"- Toni Braxton

"From The Bottom of My Broken Heart." - Brittany Spears

These two are probably the best that have come along as far as "pop" goes. That is just my opinion, but, if you want to hear songs that have some meaning behind them, these two have some. I am not saying that all of their songs are great, but, they do have some good ones.

Unfortunately, Spears has turned for the worse. It's really unfortunate. Perfect example of what fame can do to you,I suppose.

I think Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks is the saddest.

But a lot of members here are probably too young to remember that one.

While that was before my time, I have heard the song.

"We have joy, we have fun, we have seasons in the sun."

Minnie, unfortunately, Lohan was singing about something that is all too common. Good song. That is the first time I ever heard it.

The one I will go for is by the Smiths, although most of their songs are orientated about being misreable. I guess they ain't outright pop, but I don't think they are outright indie or rock. I think they are pretty much a mixture of things.

Anyways.... the one I will go for...

"Heaven Knows I am Misreable Now".

I dont find pop songs sad anymore.

These songs are just slightly more dramatic love songs not true sad songs.

At the moment, this one. I'm not a big fan of Christina Agu-whatever's but she does surprise me every now and then. This song is so so sad and I love how she sings it.

Christina Aguilera - Hurt.

I find all pop songs sad. And I'm not talking about the tears here.

I just do not like watching music videos that are all alike with perfectly in sync robot style dancing. Where's the originality in songs that aren't even written by the artist themselves? (most of them anyways)

I remember watching a television show which took a random person on the street and turned them into a pop star. I wish I could remember what it was called because that was a brilliant piece of work.

This one is the saddest "pop" song I could find at the moment. I've heard that Peter apologized and said that he was sorry about that song, but that might be just a rumour...

Listen and cry...

Peter Gabriel - Mercy Street

edit to clarify: I was only kidding, Peter never apologized for this song...

Asala, yes, that is certainly a very sad one. It came out shortly before I got out of the military.

damn, I wanted to toss Terry Jacks into the mix. There is no sadder song. Seriously.

for those of you unfamiliar with this tragic tale of a dying man saying his goodbye's, here's the lyrics.

Goodbye to you, my trusted friend.
We've known each other since we're nine or ten.
Together we climbed hills or trees.
Learned of love and ABC's,
skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Pretty girls are everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the hills that we climbed
were just seasons out of time.
Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me,
I was the black sheep of the family.
You tried to teach me right from wrong.
Too much wine and too much song,
wonder how I get along.
Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Little children everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the wine and the song,
like the seasons, all have gone.
Goodbye, Michelle, my little one.
You gave me love and helped me find the sun.
And every time that I was down
you would always come around
and get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die
when all the bird are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
With the flowers ev'rywhere.
I whish that we could both be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the stars we could reach
were just starfishs on the beach

for those of you with kids, listen to cats in the cradle and try not to cry. go on, try it.
