MI6 media manipulation misinformed you about Saddam Hussein

On Saturday, 27 December 2003 the government of the UK finally admitted
that the British secret service, MI6 in particular, used the mass media to
disseminate disinformation about Iraq. The campaign was called "Operation
Mass Appeal", and is described as "a campaign to plant stories in the
media about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass
destruction".

This pre-war propaganda was designed influence public opinion and make the
conquest of Iraq more palatable. It was a brainwashing programme delivered
relentlessly over several years, building up to an irresistible crescendo
with accusations repeated every day before and during the invasion. The
"news" that we were all exposed to was written to demonise the Iraqi
leader and create new fear about old weapons programmes that were
destroyed a decade ago.

No wonder people in the US and the UK think they are experts on Saddam
Hussein. This is why they all sound so sure about the crimes that Saddam
is already guilty of, before the trial has even begun.

THE Secret Intelligence Service has run an operation to gain public
support
for sanctions and the use of military force in Iraq. The government
yesterday confirmed that MI6 had organised Operation Mass Appeal, a
campaign
to plant stories in the media about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass
destruction.
The revelation will create embarrassing questions for Tony Blair in
the
run-up to the publication of the report by Lord Hutton into the
circumstances surrounding the death of Dr David Kelly, the government
weapons expert. [Who exposed the government's pre-war campaign of
propaganda and disinformation about Iraq.]

The government using the media as a tool to brain wash the masses? Never...

IMO, the evidence of non-evidence is more damning now than any article on how this deception was made. Shame that some people were fooled into thinking this war was legitimate in the first place though.

Excellent post John. I just found this same article on another website, and was going to post it, but of course I searched before to see if anyone else didn't already posted.

I'm surprised so few people commented on it. Maybe they really want to believe they'll find WMD. I mean, somes that were't planted there by the 'liberators'.

Of course the situation in Irak needed to be changed, but the way they did it and the reasons they used...

It didn't NEED to be changed. They had no right to do ANYTHING to change that situation. Would you have prefered that they conduct secret CIA missions instead of an overt war and kill people THAT way? Well they did that in addition to their overt war anyway. They are setting up secret police now in Iraq, for their own good as they say. This country will be forever in full control of the US government now, as will Afghanistan. Also, Iran and Syria are not too far off. Let's SEE what their premise for THOSE attacks will be? Perhaps Saddam will just say he moved weapons to Syria? Or perhaps they will blow up something else in America and blame THAT on Syria? Or perhaps blow something up in Israel? You know those CIA and Mossad.. always coming up with some funky little plan to further the government's agenda... you just never know what they'll do next!

Saddam was a dictator and some peoples were tortured and inprisoned for no valid reason. That is true, and I'm glad this will stop. But more different atrocities will happen, probably, due to the 'liberation' of Irak. But that's not mainly why they invaded Irak, that's what I meant. I'm sure their real goals are way much obscur than what people think.

Thanks m0rbid, I was surprised it didn't get many responses either. It must be the time of day I post or something.

Does anyone know if the UK is a signatory to the ICC (International Criminal Court)? If so, I'd imagine there could be some prosecutions.
