Weird Contrails in Southern Maine.

OK. I'm at work right now. I just went outside for a break and noticed about 4 really strange contrails. As these jets would fly over, they would leave a normal contrail behind them, but just next to the contrail would be what I'm going to describe as a blackish looking line.

There were about 4 of these contrails with about a half dozen regular contrails with no line next to them.

I'm sorry I couldn't get a pic. I have a blackberry with no camera.

Anybody seen anything like this before or can you give me an idea about what this might have been?

It's a shadow from the contrail. It happens under certain atmospheric conditions. It looks really weird if you haven't seen it before, but it's perfectly normal if conditions are right.

Thanks for the enlightenment Zaphod! I have never seen that effect before, and the fact that a few planes were doing it and a few were not was really weird to look at.
