Just one day after fighter jets escorted a British Airways flight from London into Dulles Airport at Washington D.C. the same flight on Thursday was canceled at the request of the British government, the airline said. The US authorities were unavailable for comment when prompted.

Unnamed authorities believe that al Qaeda may try to use planes on international flights in possible attacks on the United States, as they did on 9/11

A British Airways spokesman would only say that Flight 223 that was scheduled to take off at 6:20 p.m GMT (1:20 p.m. EST) was canceled for security reasons "on advice from the U.K. government."

British and Mexican airline officials canceled two flights to the United States one on New Year's Day and another on New Year's Eve after receiving warnings from American and British authorities that linked the flights to possible terrorist attacks, government and airline officials said today.
...
Aeromexico's Flight 490 from Mexico City to Los Angeles was canceled on New Year's Eve after American officials advised the airline that it might be the target of terrorist attacks. Its passengers ultimately flew to the United States on different flights.

Aeromexico too, huh?
Kind of creepy.

More Flight 216 problems.
Link

A flight out of Dulles to Heathrow Airport in London has been delayed while passengers are re-screened.
Airport officials say Flight 216 was supposed to leave Thursday evening, but it was held because of a non-specific threat. All 219 passengers aboard the plane were taken off and re-screened, and their baggage was also checked again.

I'm glad precautions are being taken, but wow....
