Man not guilty in 'dungeon' rapes

news.yahoo.com

DARLINGTON, S.C. - A jury has found a convicted sex offender accused of raping two teen girls in an underground bunker not guilty of kidnapping, sex crimes and assault with intent to kill.

Kenneth Glenn Hinson, 48, wiped his eyes and mouth and appeared to cry after the jury read its verdict, which followed about four hours of deliberations over two days.

"I think the verdict says it all," he said as he was escorted from the courtroom.

This man is a complete sicko. How can anyone think the girls were there intentionally? The man kidnapped them, then locked them up in his basement and duct tapped them, before raping them for a week. Now he gets off free, as if nothing ever happened. The girls will have to face a life long torture knowing that this man rapped them and didn't get punished for it. Now this sicko is loose on the streets again, and ready to commit the same crimes again.

I don't see why they couldn't at least charge him with rape, since both girls were 17.

I can't understand how two girls who were still underage (17) didn't get this clown charged with statuatory rape. How could a jury deliberate for so long and not at least get him on the basic laws? Weird.

The defense somehow convinced the jury that the girls ran away at night to live in the guys basement for a week to repay him with sex, in return for drugs.

If I were working on the prosecution team, I would have the girls' hair samples taken and tested to prove there were no drugs in their system, and proceed to try the man for statutory rape. I don't think it would count as a double Jeopardy, since it seems that this case revolved around whether or not the man kidnapped them and falsely imprisoned them.

To note, the man is a convicted sex offender, meaning he's probably raped girls from previous years.

I think you've got defense/prosecution mixed up djmessiah...

Anyway, in most states 16 is the legal age of consent and these girls were 17, so if the jury found that they consented, he couldn't be charged with rape.

I imagine there must have been serious problems with the prosecution's case for the jury to acquit him on all charges. People are wrongly accused all the time so I wouldn't blame the jury for making the wrong decision without knowing more about the evidence in the case.

Thanks. I changed it. The dangers of posting at midnight

I'm going to look for more info on the guy and see what his previous charges were.

Yeah tell me about it...sometimes I can't even read my own latenight posts

It looks like this guy is still held on a federal gun charge and both/either the feds and/or state could file drug charges against him since marijuana was found, but I think any charges regarding these girls have gone away.

In any case, I still don't think he'll be freed anytime soon if ever.
