reading in the paper this morning. "Baghdad's Own Great Wall.

seems they are building a 5 km 3.6m high barrier to protect Sunni residents in Azamiyah. shi'ites keep blowing them up. so they retaliate. you know how is works.

We'll seems they can hardly tell the difference between radicalists and the general population. so how exactly is locking everyone one in a "secure compound" with only several iraqi manned traffic control points as exits going to save anyone.

america's conventional war tactics don't work in guerilla war zones. not without large scales casualities and destruction.

The wall is a part of some scheme to counter sectarian violence.

keep trying fellas

Just use a mortar to fire OVER the wall, or blow holes in it, then if that is not your speed: walk around it. 3.6 miles is nothing, one bomber could walk around it and bring down a house and walk back home the same day with time to spare.

yes yes. but not quite. its 5km around and 3.6 metres high you crazy imperial user. see these insurgents just drive through the check points. if they are loaded with bombs.... ka boom. in the anarchy several more slip into the green zone.

days later........... ka boom

could not find anything about a wall or security barracade being constructed in Baghdad...

but there is this announcement made April 18th, '07

from 18 april, 2007

Iraq plans to take security control of all its provences from foreign forces before the end of the year (2007),

who's to know what deals & arrangements the Maliki government
is making with the US & coalition forces....
it might be that the Iraqi security, police, armed forces, have requested the barracade arrangement because thats how they intend to have things when the US forces pull out or significantly decrease/rotate out of Iraq.

That 3 sectioned country, is not ready for a freedom of movement atmosphere, like you would find in a disney-world theme park setup,

i really think that the US people were led to believe (sold a story) that in a short time such a theme park & safe-street 'Mayberry', would be the case for Saddam free Iraq.

Imperial user? Are you now going to start to insult people when you wanted a discussion on this? If so close your mouth and never post, when you make a topic EXPECT people to talk about it pending on what it is. Then EXPECT some people to fight with you though I was not. The point still stands though that they will no longer have to even use bombers or snipers, just mortars. They CONCENTRATED the population so now they are sitting ducks and this will now EASILY turn into a turkey shoot for the other side.

I'd like to know
A: How they are to determine exactly where the wall is to be, i.e, how do they ensure that they aren't going to leave a potential target household within reach of bombings...

B: How are they going to manage to build it? The very construction effort will be a prime target for more bombings. Who would volunteer for such a construction effort?
