This is, however, what I've been noticing. I'm only 24, but it seems faster and faster that the media is allowing things to make the air waves. More and more is becoming allowed on more and more public stations. I've just found the trend disturbing, and when I heard # on basic cable, I was shocked, but more disturbed, because the trend I'd seen was continuing.

Bill is a great example to use in this discussion though since he continues to be a leading voice (third most popular TV personality) and constantly argues FOR censorship... of Music, Tv, Movies...

It doesn't stop with Rap and "Kill Bill" he thinks FRIENDS is one of the most 'dangerous' shows on TV (but of course, not any Fox programming!).

I can see the trend you've noticed being real, but (for me) the censors are scarier than what they want to censor. I may be on my own slippery slope, but if FRIENDS offends you... I don't want you to be deciding what I can and can't see.

Again though...the South Park thing: it's pay TV and late night. (Basic cable is still invited and paid) But I'd have a problem at 4 in the afternoon too, even on cable.

I actually enjoy Friends. It's one of the few good sitcoms out there these days

I used to watch south park for a bit.

I never got too into it, Lame comedy.

Too much foul language, honeslty our kids dont need this.

Kartman sounded like he was constipated all the time.

I was never impressed with South Park even though it is a program that came out of Canada.

I think that 'Trailor Park Boys' would kick its ass anyday frankly.

But I am concerned with incessant swearing and unless it really adds to the context I find it gets tiring really fast.

Hopefully the tech will soon exist to edit this kind of stuff like is presently done on the web - in this forum for example.

It may exist now for all I know, is anyone aware of it?

It's a low budget show in Canada that has become a cult hit. Apparently it is seen in parts of the US and Europe and is very popular where seen. I know the English love it.

They just signed a deal with several cable channels in US hopefully more people will see it. I would call it South Park meets the Dukes of Hazard if I could describe it to you.

South Park has been doing it for a while but, they hold off from the F word and the S word (notice how I didn't abuse my censor free status) until after 12AM est, so as not to piss people off. NYPD Blue was probably the first show to push the envelope. If it's rated "TV MA", they can show anything, I mean anything, even penetration. Most shows with that rating won't do it though to avoid protests by religious groups.

I forgot where I was going with this so, whatever!!! I'm loaded, I just had the freakest sex of my life and, I'm very, VERY confused.

it really is only a word. i wouldnt even say its BAD language: a well placed swear word can do wonders for an argument.

bad language: muddling up words, a long stream of short words that a 5 year old can easily comprehend, saying "basically" and "dya know wadim sayin?" at the end of every sentence.

I agree. From what I remember of a London trip like 20 years ago...American TV STILL isn't half way as liberated.

I find it ironic that some of you are bitching about "bad language", when the South Park movie itself is about how far people go to censor things from their children and how it goes too far.

Over here in the UK we have the 9pm watershed, once that time comes anything goes on TV. By then your children should be in bed for school, so the only people to blame are the parents. If you do let children watch the TV I doubt they are going to become little terrors just because they heard some naughty words. It is without doubt that they hear these words in the schoolground or wherever everyday, and chances are they heard those words straight out of their parents or relatives mouths, not the TV.

You should not censor art, EVER!

A child should learn respect for people, so if my child were to swear in front of me or strangers and relatives he'd get a royal bollocking. If however he chooses to swear infront of his friends and they do vice versa then that is a choice they've made as a group, and I'm not going to go down there and try and police that.

For alot of us it was "cool" to swear, but you grow out of it. Some when they grow swear when they get angry to express themselves and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm more worried about innocent children being blown to bits by reckless governments in foreign countries than a particular noise that the voice box makes from certain beings(that's all it is). Just stop taking shit like this so seriously.

It's funny that although South Park the Movie is a comedy, it is all these issues that it tries to address and I find it ironic that instead of watching the points it makes you jumped straight on the first naughty word you've heard. How sad.

the only thing that shocked me on brit tv was a documentary called "designer vaginas" or something which showed close-ups, opened close-ups and behind not-so-close-ups of vaginas.... i didnt think that was allowed on TV..... (this was all shown before 11pm).

this was on channel 4 aswell.... (a channel that everyone can get)

you cant buy porno mags untill ure 18.... but you can have sex at 16 (and see EVEYThing at every angle you could ever image).... WTF!?

I kinda thinks it's weird... I'm from Denmark and I remember when I was a little kid and watching childrens-tv (im soon 18 now) there was no swearing and so on... Now they often say "Lort" (Lort (danish) = # (english)) and stuff like that.
It is not censored and it is shown in childrens programs. Even southpark over here is censored though.

I don't think it's that bad that children listen to the words fu*k, sh*t and so on... They will learn it anyway, and it is only words ?

I think America is A LOT more "afraid" of those kind of words, and they will censor it away, eventhough they are english words... Over here we "often" use the word fu*k...

I don't really get it, because I saw some MTV once and Eminem song and he was supposed to say sh*t but he said poo. What is excactly the difference ?? It "says" the same thing... The stuff the etc. comes out of the human *ss (or the human body part where you find the anus / bun)

Also fu*k is also used instead of making love, and i'm sure that a lot of children will come to a place in their lives where they will make love.

I know it sound "bad" but anyway..... Just my thought...

My opinion on the "F" bomb may be biased. I enjoy the crude political humor of that show, way too much. I don't think that words like that should be put into the fore-front of mainstream television. So when they air it at 1 AM, I honestly believe they are taking steps to avoid controversial issues.

The true issues come down to parents and the freedom of choice. In reality, you dont have to let your child watch that show if you dont want to. You dont have to watch it yourself if it is offensive. If you think it is a problem that your child may see these things, take steps with your child. Don't go off fighting a war with canada to get the foul language off of the television, when it is your child you should be focusing your energy on.

The movie itself had some great points to make on this subject! It was the entire point of the movie to be quite honest. Even though the show seems random, it is motivated by relatively important political issues that coincide with the time frame that the episodes (or movies) were concieved.
