Nixon and the 1970 election

Hey guys, I'm currently doing some research on Nixon and how the 1970 election was won. Living in the UK I don't really have much knowledge about past US politics. From what I have learnt I can see that Nixon appealed to the "silent majority", being hippie counter culturists and anti-war demonstrators. Nixon offered peace and honor, saying that new leadership would end the war and offer peace in the pacific.

Apart from this I can't find much about how he went about his campaign and eventually win the election, maybe some of you older guys can help me out!
