alright in this forum it's mostly probush vs. antibush, well what about something canadian!

1- the merger of the right? do you guys think it'll work? personally i think that it will only weaken the right. I am a canadian alliance supporter. It will just lead to break offs like already seen with people such as Joe Clark.

2- Paul Martin- Is he a centre-left like he says or is he a centre-right like his actions suggest? i see him as a centre left on social issues but more right leaning on economic issues. I don't know how much better than Chretien he'll be but hopefully he can restore this country to what it was before trudeau and chretien messed up the country!

what our country needs is
-dramatic increase in military spending after years of cuts( think i'm some war junky see this link)
-better relations with the USA
-better health care system
-ottawa needs better relations with the provinces
-less of this funding socialist programs that benefit a small fraction of the country(i.e. government grants for david suziki and grants to study how flies land on walls)

This term is gonna be terrible for liberals.

It's obvious Martin is going more right than left, and he's just the kinda guy you don't like.. I don't know, I have a bad feeling about him, I never felt this way about Clark, Dief, Chretien, or others, but when I hear 'Martin' I think 'Mulroney', and I end up feeling sick.

I agree that the new Conservative alliance was a weakening rather than a strengthening though..

The main point of this post, however, is that I think you are WAY the hell off on your lines, they seem to be 'Let's go American! Canada should = America Jr.!', Things like Mr. Suzuki's and other small nonprofit grants, as well as the general breezy and comfortable feel we are presented with in a government are a great part of what make us Canada. You think a Rick Mercer equivalent could have a sundae with Bush in a DQ? Sure as hell not, but we saw Chretien do it, and it assured us he was on our side, he wasn't the rich guy you would never see outside of Commons and News Releases.

And your views sure as hell aren't right-conservative, you're like a fricking red-tory! Where's your tax-cuts? Your improved economy, where everything is privatised so we can be Americans? Instead you want us to increase spending on Health and the Military? TAX HIKE TIME! I guess the only reason you'd suggest it is because if Martin does it, the Liberals go byebye.

Hey, I like this forum, even with the openings in my post, harshness in Canadian politics is hilarious!

i'm not suggesting huge hikes, in reality i expect that to meet the ideas that I propose there would have to be a minor hike, but alot is redistrubution of funds and cut back on government waste

Hey put it this way, would you rather spend a bit more for health care and continue to be one of the world's finest countries or let it slowly crumble away? Me, i'd rather see the money be spent on improving our water utilities so i don't end up with a big glass full of e.coli. If it can happend in a very wealthy province like Ontario, damn right it could happend to you

I'm a greenie pinko commie so my opinions are that funding should be spent improving social programs like welfare, and job creation programs. And I would like to see a more enviromentally friendly approach to the enviroment. I would also like to see increased funding in the military, particulairy in light and special forces because it's not like we'll be able to maintain a large and effective tank force. More health care spending, higher tax on big corporations and rich people. Legalization of pot, funding for education, cutting back the deficet.

God damned IE... crashed, I had a big post written. Oh well. Again, but shorter.

projekt: the wealth was the problem! The walkerton water system was privatised, the guy who actually earned his job owning it gave it to his two sons, who slacked off and didn't measure the chlorine levels, which allowed the particular e.coli through. In a less-wealthy, less-privatized system, that wouldn't have happened, because the #ers running the water would know how to run the damned water.

falcon: Big or little, it is a hike nonetheless, and people hate hearing that, ESPECIALLY when they vote in the Conservatives. Joe Clark was called out in a few months for his tax hike idea, I personally like it, we pay now, and we live tomorrow, but an 18% tax on all gasoline? christ, that killed him.

silver: If I had any insight into how the extreme left works, I would be so far left that my world would have no right, It would be only left, all directions. The problem is, money must be pulled out of your ass! The left wants to pump up spending and save money. It's a bit of a contradiction when you think about it. Spend more, lose less. + = - , It's crazy!

Now, the whole 'cut off the cream and go with the efficiency' deal would be great, but its a bureaucracy here, we aren't going to do that, it would need a militant takeover or its political equivalent (ahem, Green Party) to change our damn system, and while we all want to do it, we'd be corrupted or fail, its that simple.

I _really_ like this board.
