Well, what I have to say isn't directly related to this story, but it is a sign of after-effect of yesterday's tragedy.
I'm in college (well, back in college, but that's not really important here) and today, only about 1/3 of the kids were there.
Some friends and I were wondering if it was due to what happened yesterday.
Our school is a very small campus (only 5 buildings) and located in farmland and a remote wooded area (well, as remote as you can get on LI) and we
figured that it would have been a good location due to it's remoteness for something like that to happen.
There would be a lag in response time due to it's location and everything on campus is centralized.
If it can happen there, it could happen here too.
It was pretty freaky, so I'm pretty sure that's why today's attendance was so low.
It's a shame that things like this have to happen.
Truly sad.
I just hope that this won't be a way to justify violence or hate crimes to Asians (or to be used as a pre-cursor excuse to invade Korea.)

Yes, I would say it was. Parents, probably told their kids to relax and just rest, till things blow over. Like someone said 4-20 is almost here.
So were going to go through this a while again. Sadly, it may happen again.
I just hope that this won't be a way to justify violence or hate crimes to Asians (or to be used as a pre-cursor excuse to invade Korea.)
I hope not either. People, do get weird about these things. It's like they don't have a brain. Just because one person is messed up don't make
another one messed up.
I don't think it would be used as a pre-cursor to invade korea. I believe they were truly sorry when they apologized. It's not the country's
fault for one man's mistake.

I totally agree.
But, with our current government's track record of reasons we should invade, er...I mean "occupy" other countries, I'm sure you can understand my
uneasiness.
Is there any more news on the two-gunmen theory?
I haven't heard anything else about that today.

Yes, they believe it was this one man. He was already messed up. He didn't talk to the other kids. Signed his name with a ? mark. His writings
were so bad the teacher alerted those in charge. However, they dropped the ball and did nothing. Which happens way to much. People, not caring
enough about someone else to reach out to them and just talk to them. There's to much self important attitudes. Not caring about the fellow man.

That's really sad.
So, it's totally a possibility that it was just a hurting kid, who decided to turn his hurt on the world that seemed to just push him aside.
That's really sad.
There has been a dramatic increase of anomic crimes in the last few decades.
Perhaps in this increasingly automated world, we're truly losing our humanity.
How did this kid get those guns though?
Was there any news on the tracing of serial numbers, or did they not even bother with that?
It would appear that there is much more to this than what we're being told.
I want to know.

The serial numbers were filed off the pistols. These were legal weapons, Glock 9mm pistols which can be bought by anyone of age and without a criminal
history.

I believe he just purchased them. Cause he was legally in our country. A college person. So there was no problem. Check out yahoo news. Every
thing about him is there. Also, cnn news. Everyone has it right now.
So, it's totally a possibility that it was just a hurting kid, who decided to turn his hurt on the world that seemed to just push him aside.
Sadly yes, however, he made it very hard to talk to him. I just wish someone would of grabbed him by his arms and took him to a counselor. Or did
more to reach out to him.
Everyone of these kids say something or don't say something it's pretty easy to tell the one's who are going to lose it. It's really not hard.
I see signs alot in people. You just have to talk to them. Let them know it will be ok. Just show you care. That's all most people want. They
want to know someone cares.

Yeah, that's what we are learning is how so many threats and incidents took place today. Some say it may get worse, for a few days anyways.

If someone is in a deep depression or doesn't want help, it's very hard to assist them.
Occassionally people who are deeply depressed commit suicide and that is bad enough.
But when they decide to take 30 people with them, then I don't have any sympathy for them AT ALL.
We all don't get accepted how we want by people all the time in every situation but it doesn't make it all right to go and shoot someone for making
us feel bad.
As for talking to they guy, if he is f-uped enough to go on a shooting spree, yeah I'm sure he's gonna want to sit down for a cookie and a glass of
milk and chew the fat with ya'.

From the link provided above:
news.yahoo.com...
One law enforcement official said Cho's backpack contained a receipt for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol. Cho held a green card, meaning he
was a legal, permanent resident. That meant he was eligible to buy a handgun unless he had been convicted of a felony.
Roanoke Firearms owner John Markell said his shop sold the Glock and a box of practice ammo to Cho 36 days ago for $571.
"He was a nice, clean-cut college kid. We won't sell a gun if we have any idea at all that a purchase is suspicious," Markell said.
Back to the topic though, it seems this mass murder has opened the floodgates for other troubled minds, for a while at least.
I don't see how it can get better only worse on the track we are on now.
Take care,
- Naz

Flighty,

This is so true. However, these are the people who need it the most.
I have no sympathy for a murderer either. No matter what his problem was. You DO NOT TAKE SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE.
There are thousands if not millions of people who has been abused and not killed another person or even hurt someone else. Some people come out of
abuse and grow by what they went through. I know life can suck and it's not always fair. But these people need to get a grip and realize this too.
No he don't need a cookie and milk. However, he does need to be told you cannot take someone else's life just cause your hurting or your pissed at
someone.
You sometimes just have to SCREAM BACK at these people to you make them hear you.

My college, UT Arlington, when asked on the news how they would handle it said that they don't discuss these matters publicly, meaning in other
words, that if it did happen, we'd be SOL there.
To be honest, it wouldn't be hard to do this at my school; in fact fairly easy and it could be prevented, and if not entirely, so many people don't
have to die or get injured. I'm amazed at how VTech handled the situation, it's rather appaling. If one student dies from a shooting shouldn't
the campus be closed down or locked down because of it? It could have been handled so much better, and many lives could have been saved. In the
event that there is another event that starts to unfold like this, I hope that we can learn from this tragic event and hopefully save and prevent it
from happening in the future.

Yes it is. Most of the time things get put on lock down. So why did this campus not get put in lock down? This shocked me. Heck, something might
happen at a bank 3 blocks down the road and all the schools in the area goes on lockdown. I mean they do this all the time. So it made no since to
me at all.
No you won't be SOL. As soon as you know something is going down. Hide quickly or play dead. Stay quite. Block or lock your doors. Whatever it
takes to stay safe. Use your instincts, their the best for you.

We have had bomb threats at our school every other year in Northern Wisconsin.... infact right after columbine i remember bomb threats at least once
a month... (i will keep in touch if i hear anything in the area this year.. its ussualy never on the news... such a small school )
Too many people out there are handling this the wrong way... if they are depressed they need to seek help... and i think our sociiety needs to change
in order to acceept these people better instead of forcing them to fake a front so everyone thinks its ok....
its an illness... it needs to be taken care of... and they shouldnt be taking the signs so lightly!!! (SORRY IF THIS WAS OFF TOPIC)

"Schools Superintendent Jerry Payne said both schools were locked down and police arrested a 53-year-old man who allegedly made the threat in a note
he gave to a student headed to the private Bowling Green School in Franklinton. Both towns are in southeastern Louisiana."
From Yahoo News
I'm glad they busted that one guy, but I hope these people aren't really serious. I'm really tired of people thinking this kind of stuff is funny.
This is not something to imitate or make light of. Our world is a pathetic place anymore.

Most people whose depressed don't think about seeking help. Generally, they don't care about anything including LIFE. To them all LIFE SUCKS!
They live in a dark tunnel and can't find the light. They see nothing good. They don't hear the birds singing or see the flowers blooming. They
just don't understand there is something different for them.
That's where we should come in at. To show them there is another way. There is Good to this LIFE also. It's not all bad. Yeah it might seem bad
right now. But it will get better.

We had some schools cancel classes due to threats the other day as well, I am in the midwest. It was like a blurb on the news. Do you think that the
terror plan is to next attack our schools? I have heard as they say chatter for months about this type of possibility, but you know even in our little
town, there are precautions in place for pretty strict security. Our town only has 289 people, but we have security. This scares me. I dont like the
feeling I get from this whole deal, I have stayed away from the tv,so that I can keep my gut instinct and common sense intact. My prayers are with the
family of the victims.
