The dollar hit an all-time low against the euro on Wednesday, shrugging off U.S. economic data as concerns about possible attacks in the United States during New Year celebrations intensified selling pressure.
Currency traders are "routinely ignoring positive information, choosing instead to highlight negative information as an excuse to sell the dollar," said Michael Woolfolk, senior currency strategist with the Bank of New York.

As 2003 drew to a close, the U.S. government ordered warplanes to patrol skies over New York, Las Vegas and other U.S. cities during New Year's Eve celebrations as part of increased vigilance against attacks.

Hmmm... why would they ignore the good to hear only the bad... talk about a conspiracy.

Here is a little more of what is being said...

U.S. authorities, who have said they fear an attack bigger than the Sept. 11, 2001 strikes that killed some 3,000, restricted flights over Las Vegas and New York, where over a million people are expected to gather for the country's two biggest street parties.

Warplanes will be on high alert to intercept any errant flight. In Pasadena, California, where thousands will attend American football's annual New Year's Day Rose Bowl game, police will use electronic sensors to detect any biological attack.

Ambulances and other emergency vehicles are being screened by law enforcement authorities amid concern that the vehicles may be used in a possible terrorist attack, New Jersey's governor told CNN Tuesday.

McGreevey said authorities are concerned about possible attacks on the Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge -- the three major transportation routes across the Hudson River to New York City.

"We understand this may be an infringement on civil liberties, but most importantly we have a responsibility to keep our families safe," the governor said.

At least they are admitting to taking away liberties this time.

Of course they do...

Unless you start connecting the dots....

New York: at least 2 stowaways found dead in wheel wells of airplanes headed to NYC, in the past couple weeks.

LA: the recent cancel of those flights from Paris to LA....

They stopped (and physics stopped) something, but maybe it was only a part of something bigger....??? THAT'S why they're on edge, and I for one, am glad they are.....

EDIT: The ambulance concern is another dot to connect. Large amounts of police, fire, and ambulance uniforms went missing some time ago, and still more were sold on E-Bay to middle-eastern account holders. I think the authorities have put more together than they are telling, and they are either going to thwart, or at least diminish, something big soon....

Reminds me of this quote:

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

-Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
